Help with adding 'color' to songs

<t>Posted this over in 'Ask Neil', but was wondering if others had any tips for starting to add 'color' (melody) to my playing? I can play basic chord progressions but I want to add that next step of varying within chords. My left hand seems to 'lock' on the basic shape. Useful exercises to get fing...

Re: Question about Taylor guitars

<t>Picked up my '02 310 (dread/no electronics) for $600 on eBay back in '07. Not new of course, but in very 'gently used'. $2300 for a 3xx? That sounds pretty steep to me. Thought they came in at around $1500 msrp for a GA3 (what Taylor now calls the 'non-electronic/non-cutaway 310) according to tay...

Moving to adding melody to my playing

I really struggling (as in REALLY) to add melody notes into my playing. Any 'how to get started tips' for making that breakthrough transition from strumming to adding 'color/melody'?

Thanks

Re: Collaboration of Homeward Bound

If you like Travis style, try out stuff from Mark Hanson. Breaks it down into the basic patterns and builds on them with increasing complexity as you master each.

Oh yeah.. that was SWEET!

Re: New to the Forums, TG Target member about a year

<t>Thanks for the suggestion. Forgot to include it (Blackbird) in my vast repetoire list, along with John Barleycorn. Blackbird was the first song I tackled and still am tackling, though I pick it a little different than Neil lays out (use my index instead of thumb to hit that second note). Works cl...

New to the Forums, TG Target member about a year

<t>So, after 40 plus years, picked up a guitar and started playing around with it about 2 years ago. Have discovered Travis fingerpicking and love it. Was wondering if y'all had any recommendations for songs suitable for pickin' I could focus on. Landslide was my first real fingerstyle song, and Let...
