Re: Still trying to understanding scale
Thanks for the advice. Maybe I am complicating this by stressing over the five patterns. Is it safe to say that any of these five patterns can be played anywhere on the guitar neck as long as they contain the notes that relate to the key in which is being played?

Re: Singing? SINGING!
I found that when I started singing songs I tried to sound exactly like the original artist. This was a mistake. Once I allowed myself to just sing the song the way I felt it, I became a lot better and a lot more satisfied with myself.

Playing Pentatonic Scales

Re: Pentatonic scale
Thanks Stuart
You have given me a lot to think about. My knowledge of theory is limited. I will study this and write it out on paper. Im sure it will become a lot clearer as I begin to understand more and more theory. Thank you for your help.

Pentatonic scale
I am trying to learn the pentatonic scale and frankly I am confused. Are G,A,B,D and E the only notes in this scale? If not do the five patterns Neil talks about in the lessons apply to all the keys? Are there sharps and flats in the pentatonic scale? Dazed and confused!

Your story sounds like mine. I started as a 10 year old and quit shortlly thereafter. I started again as a 50 year old seven years ago. This is a great site to learn different things. Keep practicing and you will become better than most. You only have to please yourself.
