Guitar Pro File for “When I’m 64”
Neil’s solo acoustic finger style piece “When I’m 64” does not include a Guitar Pro file in the lesson materials. Because I occasionally use Guitar Pro for practicing new material, I created a note-by- note transcription of Neil’s PDF file of this song. I tried uploading the file, but this forum wil...

Is Old Music Killing New Music--An article from "The Atlantic"
I subscribed to Totally Guitars over a decade ago. After playing through nearly all of Neil's solo fingerstyle pieces--(sorry, Neil, not Heliotrope Bouquet, by Scott Joplin, I know you slipped some extra fingers into that one) I moved on and come back occasionally to order individual lessons that in...

Re: Has Focus of TG Shifted?
<t>Thanks everyone for schooling me in the value of connecting with other musicians through this forum. As you can see by my stats I'm not a frequent poster or reader in these forums. You've helped me realize the value of doing so. I appreciate your taking the time to share your insights. <br/> <br/...

Has The Focus Of This Thread Shifted? Bloody Hell Yes!! Totally Pirates!!!
<t>Okay, my schedule did not permit me to go to the IGC, but it seems the site and the "Newest Lessons," are about and directed toward IGC. I respect the rights of those who attended the IGC to enjoy some post-event camaraderie and review, but it seems to have become the major focus of the Totally G...

Re: It's been said before I'm sure but....
<t>Thanks Lynn. I usually record the song on Transcribe or Capo then slow down the actual recordings. The reason I like Transcribe is because it works with a pedal that lets me loop, back up or jump ahead. It's hands-free control. The reason it would help to slow the actual video is to see finger pl...

Re: Rhythm lessons and metronome exercise
<t>Practicing with a metronome is NOT fun, but it DOES make you a better player. Your "internal" beat is deceptive: It compensates for problem areas in your playing. A metronome doesn't lie. It will "out" your mistakes. If you go off beat with a metronome stop, back up, slow down the metronome and r...

Re: Finger Picking
<t>It's a tad late in the conversation, but I used acrylics for nearly two years. I tried the ProPik Fingertone Pics a couple of years ago and couldn't make them work. But I just tried them again and Wow! I can tell my "technique" has improved over the past couple of years because I'm kissing my nai...

Re: It's been said before I'm sure but....
Love the site, BUT...Yes, this would be a very welcome enhancement. Flow Player has such a capability--I don't know why they don't permit access to the ability to loop or just slow the video down. I'm sure there is a perfectly good reason because otherwise it's a great site.

Re: Finger Picking
<r>Okay, I have used acrylics for two years. Guys, it's the 21st century. It's okay to wear pink, carry a man bag (okay, call it a tactical satchel if you must--Maxpedition.com has some used by military spec ops) and yes, get your nails done. I only get the nails on my right hand done and go every w...

Re: Where are all the new people?
<t>Hi Sam:<br/> <br/> "New" is a relative term. I have friends who I consider to be guitar legends, but they feel like neophytes compared to other guitar players they know. We're all part of a continuum of "newness" to the instrument.<br/> <br/> I played classical guitar in my twenties and then aban...
