And therein lies the problem. With the world having a set of standards that are constantly sliding further and further towards having none, we allow things that never should have happened in the first place.

No, I'm not saying I was any better, but at least I now see the danger and can take steps to avoid it.

It's not the heavy bass beat, or the talk/sing song or rhyming I object to, its the constantly eroding standard of what's acceptable. We get so used to seeing something that it becomes 'acceptable' when really its not but we are made to think that just because everyone else is doing it, that it must be Ok.

Remember when your mother asked if everyone was walking off a cliff would you follow?

Sorry... Personal and Professional rant. Resume normal conversation.

All due respect, Andy, when I add up the content of some of your most recent posts, I get a strong feeling that you've entered a state of pessimism -- which I think is maybe a difficult place for a guy in your profession to be in.

I choose to see the people who frequent this site as the real microcosm of what the world stands for -- the vast majority of the participants being wonderfully good-hearted and supportive people. I'm reminded of that every time I log on. That a tiny minority of world citizens engages in terrorism, rape, or child pornography doesn't change my view of things at all.

I also think it's dangerous to tar all rap music with the same brush. While I care for very little of it, I'm aware that much of it distances itself from cop-killing, ass-capping, or bra-busting lyrics. It deserves to not be mentioned in the same breath with gangster rap.

I don't believe its pessimism I think its waking up to reality, which is a good place for Andy's vocation to be; all generations go through similar things and as we progress we get more lenient and PC which is not necessarily a good thing. We tend to shy more and more away from controversy and being in a position to offend people. We have gone to far with some things , e.g. Banning childrens books in Britain because they have a character called Golliwog who happens to be black, also banning the same book because the two main characters, Noddy and Big Ears sleep in the same bed on occasion!

Now I never really answered the RAP question, and yes I guess some of it is good music and some isn't, just the same as some Rock is good and some is not. Will it stand the test of time? Its just not to my taste, same as some kids today don't like the Beatles.

Well, lets see....

My profession teaches that all men are created equal. Each and every one is born into sin and will naturally shy away from good works / deeds. That's a pretty pessimistic view of things, but time has proved that it is solidly based in reality.

The tiny minority you mention Dennis is quickly becoming the mainstream majority. Movies, TV, even comic books all undermine the foundations of moral society. Take a mixed group of people aged 15-30 and ask pointed questions about what is right and wrong. Amazingly the vast majority of them simply can not tell the difference. They were never taught or, they were told but it was never modeled for them. Why do many thousands of people think it is ok to download music or software without paying for it? Or upload movies that are just hitting the box office? Why is it suddenly ok to do the things that are wrong? Why is it ok for movies to glorify gangsters and pimps but make the moral man look stupid? Why do our children join gangs and shoot each other over money, territory, or just plain spite?

Look around. This is not the world we grew up in. It's changing and changing mighty fast. We have to realize that drastic measures are needed and have the conviction to stand up and demand them.

Politicians lie as a matter of course. They steal, do drugs and get caught red handed with hookers and then get re-elected. The fundamental fabric of our world has come unraveled and there are very few of us left with the courage to stand up and say so. And now, when we do, we get sued in the courts for 'hate speech'. It's become a crime to actually care enough about your fellow man to try and lift him out of the muck.

Am I pessimistic? A bit. But I also see there is hope. And that is what I cling to. I have an incredible message of redemption and salvation that I'm more than happy to share with anyone willing to sit and listen. But since they are not knocking on my door, I have to go out to them. They NEED this message. It will literally save mankind from himself. Problem is, He doesn't want to be saved.

Now, I better get off the soapbox before someone starts shooting at me thinking he's protecting the planet from my particular brand of insanity.

Sorry if that seems a bit strong. I'm passionate about my Lord and Savior and it comes out a bit intense at times.

I guess it's a generation thing.

It evokes a lot of great memories for me. It describes the clubbing times that I experienced and wish I could go back to. In fact it's only in the last couple of years that I've began to miss my past! Suppose I should get used to it...
