I hope I'm replying correctly. I'm still getting the hang of this forum thing. First, don't get me wrong. I am *totally* about having a band (I was in two working bands at the same time up until recently) and *totally* about the girls. The thing is that I keep living my 6-string girl whether the ones with curves *and* legs are around or not and whether my homies are slamming it down rock n roll style behind me or not. :) I am a normal guy in that reguard.
Next, as to navigating the fret board, I never wanted and never used markers of any sort. It's muscle memory, pure and simple. When I was in school for my classical degree, it was my biggest challenge. Sometimes, slow practice while feeling every individual fret pass by was the way to begin. It's slow-going, but a labor of love.
Peace for now.
Matt B
