Guantanamera

If you know of a song that you think would make a good lesson, here is the place to bring it up. As of May, 2015 we have over 800 song lessons but are always on the lookout for more. Be sure to point out what about the song makes it a good candidate, unique or unusual, a particular part that interests you, or just that you think a bunch of members would enjoy it. An embedded video would be helpful as well.

Hi all, I hope you re well!

Could you do a lesson Guantanamera please? Pete Seeger did it in the 60s and it has been used and abused many tijmes since. The original lyrics are Cuban but I am more intersted in the tune.

Guantanamera is a basic progression, nearly the same as La Bamba and Twist And Shout. The best way to play Pete Seeger's version is in Dropped D (he has different versions capoed at different frets), and frequently substitute chord ii for IV (Em for G). Let me know if that helps.

The Sandpipers version makes the progression fairly easy to hear in D. Celia Cruz did it in G.
