Corina checks into heartbreak hotel!

If you know of a song that you think would make a good lesson, here is the place to bring it up. As of May, 2015 we have over 800 song lessons but are always on the lookout for more. Be sure to point out what about the song makes it a good candidate, unique or unusual, a particular part that interests you, or just that you think a bunch of members would enjoy it. An embedded video would be helpful as well.

Not sure what qualifies as a "major star or group" but here's a short list:

Barenaked Ladies
Bee Gees
Blood Sweat & Tears
David Wilcox
Frank Sinatra
Judy Collins
Linda Ronstadt
Norah Jones
Sam Cooke
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
Steely Dan
The Supremes
Tommy Emmanuel

HI Gang,

Interesting thoughts here and definitely some things to consider. And oddly enough, the next lesson coming is a first from a band. There are two people on Daryl's list who are represented here but I'll leave that to the detectives (one is easy). Generally I consider songs that were originally done by the songwriter, or have particularly interesting guitar parts. There are a few on the list who I feel should be, and probably will be represented in the near future. There are a few there who I really like but am not sure any of their stuff would interest students.

Let the discussion and speculation continue...

Neil

And Elvis?!?!? Corina has just been uninvited to IGC!

P.S. Elvis and Colonel Tom are credited as collaborative writers on some songs, only if the real songwriter signed a sketchy contract agreeing that they were. This was done so Elvis would agree to record it.

Linda Ronstadt had a really beautiful voice but I don't think she actually wrote any of her own songs, It's my understanding that she mostly did covers of other artists songs. I thought she had written Blue Bayou but that song was actually written by Roy Orbison.

Well we sure have posts from our very own Elvis. :) here's one that always puts a smile on MY face.

Written by the Bee Gees (later performed by Elvis)

See thread for info from TGElvis.
http://www.totallyguitars.com/forum/149 ... -gees.html

I truely thought Ness had posted lessons by the Bee Gees - but I must be wrong.

And then there's this. :) by two of my favorite crooners. :) who should perhaps now be known as TGTeam-Elvis. I LOVE your work. From your secret fan. :)

Corina - I'll have my ukulele at camp. If you're prepared to cut the nails on your left hand, I'd be happy to show you how to play Can't Help Falling in Love on the uke. :) of course there's bound to be other Elvis songs that only have a few chords in them that might be a better first choice. I'm sure Ness could help with better recommendations as to the best Elvis songs for beginners.

So what do you say Corina? Want to join in the fun of playing as well as singing? :)

Nice to see this "olde fashioned" thread stir up a discussion  , like in the old days. Some nice suggestions there Daryl, I like BareNakedLadies too, and the group  , the TG Canadians introduced me to them.

I guess Neil and I are OFF Corina's Christmas card list this year! :silly:

Other surprising omissions ...

No Bert?? (we actually only have a few John ....Faro's Rag was mentioned as a multi-lesson at one stage...that would be very welcome plse!)

No Paul McCartney solo ?? He must have done something in the last 46 years, he had quite a post-Beatles career at one stage . As Ali G might say - is it cos he is a leftie?? (sorry Jason!).

I'm sorry Neil, I had forgotten that you did a lesson on Tommy Emmanuel's "Ruby's Eyes". And I never knew that "Both Sides Now" was written by Joni Mitchell (and NOT Judy Collins).

And I agree with David. No solo McCartney (and/or Wings)? How can THAT be?

And another surprising omission......Hall & Oates (they had a string of hits in the 70's and 80's)

I once busked an Elvis-song. Don't give me the 'he didn't write it'-rant. I réally don't care... Elvis was unique, ask Lennon. ;)
