Hi All , I posted a request on the recommend a lesson section and was hoping to interest you folks to vote for it.

Here are my comments on Marvin Gaye, I heard it through the grapevine
This is a true classic that is appreciated by all generations. I know the request was made a long time ago for the CCR version, but it is difficult to transpose the long solos. I would really like to have a lesson from Neil for a finger style solo version. I have learn a version but I find that there are too many individual picked notes with not enough supporting bass notes like Neil's solo version of the songs he chose to put as lesson or the Beatles version he does so well as an example. It would be nice to have a campfire version to accompany a singer as well
Suggestion:
I was wondering if it would be possible that when a recommend a lesson is made, that it shows in the forum under a common thread? It would draw attention to the new requests (I forget to check the recommend lesson as well).
Thanks
Marc

Hi Marc, and gang,
I have definitely entertained the idea of doing I Heard It Through The Grapevine but I don't see it as a solo that incorporates the melody while keeping the riffs going. The riffs themselves translate pretty well to guitar and keeping the bass pounding is doable, adding the melody really isn't. On the other hand, playing an approximation of the melody over the chords could be done as well.
The CCR version is quite simplified compared to the Marvin Gaye version, at least as far as the progression and changes. It would really amount to a campfire version.
In any case, It's always been on my radar but finding a satisfying solution has usually eluded me. Maybe I need to learn to settle for "good enough" someday.

Thank you Willem, Corina (I am sure you can sing a fantastic version of it), Sandy, Dermot, Bob c. , Ness for chiming in for the song and the suggestion support.
Neil, your good enough is better than the best of most people thank you for taking the time and to consider the song.
