Diogo Clemente

If you know of a song that you think would make a good lesson, here is the place to bring it up. As of May, 2015 we have over 800 song lessons but are always on the lookout for more. Be sure to point out what about the song makes it a good candidate, unique or unusual, a particular part that interests you, or just that you think a bunch of members would enjoy it. An embedded video would be helpful as well.

Fado music has seen rising interest in recent years in Europe. One of the leaders of this popularization is a young Fado singer, Sara Correia.

While the Portuguese guitar is important in this music, it is so strange and weirdly tuned that it would justify an entire section on Totally Guitars. However, since Neil has a long love with Brazilian music, a closer look at the playing of Diogo Clemente could be super-instructive. Face it, a lot of guitar work is playing with singers, and this guy is at the pinnacle working-guitarist-wise and generally unknown outside Portugal. Here is a typical song. Diogo is just playing along unintrusively., letting to Portuguese guitar show off. The similarities to gypsy music are also there.

Here are a couple pieces with a different singer.

Bottom line, a fado piece, please.
