Hey Folks,
Nesh has put together a lesson on Roller Coaster by Danny Vera, a Dutch artist new to the TG Library.
Danny Vera is truly a very talented singer-songwriter and musician from the Netherlands.
Roller Coaster appears on his 7th album 'Pressure Makes Diamonds Part II' and became a very big hit in 2019. It became so popular that one year later it went on to rank first in the annual Dutch Top 2000.
As for the meaning behind the lyrics: "The song encapsulates the emotional journey of life, the search for meaning in its ups and downs, and the importance of having a constant companion. By using the metaphor of a roller coaster, Vera effectively captures the intense emotions and the unpredictable nature of our existence. The song serves as a reminder to appreciate the moments of joy and endure the hardships, knowing that we are not alone in our experiences."
This lesson teaches how Vera plays it on guitar, using a classic Travis style picking arrangement filled with melody notes and left hand techniques such as hammer-ons and pull-offs.
We take a look at the relatively easy chords in the key of G (Capo II), and break down the picking.
It is very much encouraged to get the hang of playing through the main part of the progression first, before tackling the intro. From there incorporating the melody for that particular part will be much easier.
All in all, a song with deep and meaningful lyrics, performed by a very talented artist, who accompanies himself with a beautiful. relatively simple yet effective fingerstyle arrangement. I sure hope you enjoy it!
