Hey Gang,
Nesh has put together our second Broken Fences lesson- For A Long Time Coming now joins Wait in the TG Library.

For A Long Time Coming is another little pearl in the catalogue of Indie-Folk duo Broken Fences. It appears on their self titled debut album released in 2011.

It's another example of a song with relatively easy chords in open position, along with an interesting 6/8 fingerpicking pattern, and stunning harmonies to top it off.

This lesson takes a close look at the chords, the fingerpicking, and breaks down the progression and arrangement. As often, it includes an (informal) play through which shows how it goes from beginning to end, including the vocals.

Beautiful song. I love the picking pattern. Nice choice.

Nesh, you and Corina sound great as always.

I now have the album this song is from. Thanks for reminding me of this very cool indie folk group.

I’m trying to find my way back to playing, changed my strings, trying to regrow my callouses; still in the pain phase. But reminders like this are helping me.

Thanks teach! Love your work.

Xx

So nice to hear from you Shel!

Very glad you're finding your way back to playing, and I hope this song will add a little to it. As I mentioned to Lisa, it's so nice to play and sing. Even if you don't have someone to sing with you.

Many thanks for the compliments! xoxo

This is a clip in which she sings it by herself:

"For A Long Time Coming" is such a great track! The simple open position chords make it accessible, and that 6/8 fingerpicking pattern adds character. The harmonies are just stunning! It's worth noting how well they blend with the melody.
Additionally, this song is perfect for practicing fingerpicking technique. You can play it in various ways, giving you a lot of freedom. I definitely recommend giving this one a shot – it's a real joy to play!
