Daryl, sounds like you get it, you're a soul mate on the long hard voyage of song writing. Bloody good mate. Guess this calls for a finger check. Perhaps group amputation is in order. :) Bloody hell, Where's that plunger Tom.? Oh, or was that the sword? Micheeeeeeele, hand over that bloody sword. We've got work to do.

Michele, maybe a one note(same heavy note, beefy note) drone in it, over the whole song, on every second and fourth beat ????

I love it Michelle.

you're a bloody good song writer girl. I'm working on the music. I'm going to have to get into a pirate frame of mind though if I want to get this right. It looks like 4/4 time, with syncopation to capture the correct rhythm. Of course what do I know, I'm just a bloody pirate. (with some throbbing fingers). :) I think that calls for an amputation mate. Hummmmmm Of course that could put a slight damper on the finger pickin front. Let me think. :)
Dermot, Daryl, Sandy, Willem, I'm glad you all liked it and got a few giggles hopefully.

I'm not sure cutting your fingers OFF is the best idea for a muso, even a pirate guitarist. Maybe you could do something radical like....I dunno...rest them. :)

Yep! Getting a good take drives me crazy. I generally end up recording a video so many times that by the time the music sounds good I'm lookin' way too serious because I've forgotten to smile and that people will actually be watching not just listening.

I find GarageBand is REALLY handy when I'm trying to put some musical ideas together. The song I posted last night was several different takes, and same bits like the "be a pirate" (the bass) was copied into several places using the same two bars of music. The drum track is essential for letting you do that to keep it all regular. It really allows you to sketch out the structure of a song and then you can really start working on all the different bits.

Well that was a little entrée, I'm really looking forward to the main meal, your tasty progression Sandy. Rest up those fingers.

Shel

Ahoy mates!

I was about to unsubscribe to the original thread because I would open my inbox and find it filled with pirating mutinies . . . and then nothing! They stopped. Now I've discovered the fun has moved over here. But darn my iPad! I keep forgetting that I have to open the threads in a new tab like Michelle taught me because then I don't know there are videos and other images and I find myself out of the loop. Anyway . . .

Sandy, what a great lesson! Sometimes the FOTW lessons get put on my "When I get around to it list," but this one I watched all the way through. Fascinating! I may play Neil's melodies several times as I go through the day to see if I come up with anything--not as an alternative to yours, mind you, but just to test out the theory. ;) But you really must be complimented for making yourself the "guinea pig" and putting your idea into a video lesson. Then all the other "mates" have joined in and it's talking on a life of its own. Happy sailing, everyone! I'll be looking forward to see how things turn out.

Hi jean

Welcome aboard our new pirate ship matey. I think we made crashcup a little mad at us for pirating his threat. I'm afraid that I have to claim total ignorance on that front. I didn't realize there was such a thing as pirating a thread, but I promise to be a bloody good mate in the future. :) Meanwhile we've sailed the high seas to another location. So glad you found us.

You're right about FOTW. Visibility has it's down side. You can't pretend your a great guitarist anymore. Everyone knows better. On the other hand nobody really cares anyway, their just tuning in to hear what Neil has to say :)

Song writing is a great way to learn to play better but I've been a tortured soul since I started the process. Even Tom mentioned that its hard to sleep when you have a boatload of toons running thru your brain. :side: feel free to post anything you come up with. You can even be a pirate if you like. Talk soon

Sandy

Sandy,

I had no idea about the pirating thing either. I just felt bad that when things should stay positive, they were getting out of hand. Nevertheless, a lot of good fun (and learning) has come out of it as well.

I also felt bad that while you guys were throwing all these ideas around, that I was sitting back watching. So, I threw something together this morning. It's an alternate set of lyrics to that punk style thing Neil was doing. It's funny what you can come up with when you don't take yourself too seriously. It's my take on the whole thread pirating thing. Here goes . . . I hope I won't be too embarrassed by this because this is so unlike me.

It was quite a sight to see!

We had Shel, Willem and Dermot, too
Sandy, with her her rooster and the rest of the crew
You can never tell what they're going to do
On this ship of bloody good mates!
We've set sail with bloody good mates!

They came together from the seven seas
With swords and plungers and amputees
For a little bit of banter and repartee
Oh those bloody good mates!
They're all such bloody good mates!

So come on all you pirates with a line or two
And post to the Forum with what's bugging you
You'll be sure to get a answer from this motley crew
As they respond to the other good mates!
Because were all such bloody good mates!

My oh my Jean, you're great at this too!!! :cheer:

Before we know it there are acctally several pirates songs sailing the TG-Sea, how cool to join in!!!

Would you be able to come up with a couple of chords and a melody? Ever tried?

Ness

btw. I apologize that the other thread initially went as it did. I obviously didn't take it so well. Next time I'll bite off my tongue. Thankfully you haven't read other threads in the past, things at TG have sometimes clashed   , nowadays the community is behaving pretty well! :P

Hi jean

Bless you for joining all of the fun. I love your song. You said that you were putting it to music from Neil's suggestion on chord progressions right? Is it the progression with the Bflat? I can't wait to hear the results. Post us as you go along.

Ness. Please don't bite off your tongue. You won't be able to sing. Although, that would be right up pirate ally to be missing a body part. Don't worry about the other thread. It was okay to be annoyed. You were totally justified. With this many people sharing opinions, I'm amazed that we get along so well and have as much fun as we do. :)
