“Surprise ..we have a surprise target lesson for you….I told you all the story for the first day I walked into Neil’s office and told him the first song he needed to teach me was Metallica’s nothing else matters..Bear in mind that I had never picked a guitar up, didn’t know what a c chord was , and this was my first request…

Well as time went on and I decided to combine my internet career with Neil’s music and we decided to build Totally guitars, the very first beginner lesson part went up into You tube was of course Nothing else matters, and he filmed it for me..It has since become the most viewed video in our channel and in the talk around modern songs, I of course talked it up…But Neil has always kind of not been interested in it, he didn’t think it was a full lesson, and that others would like it, well after our Saturday gig, a few beers and some banter on songs..I went home, not thinking that we had any conclusions for a modern song.

We decided to create the new thread in the forum “the search for a modern song” and of course Metallic came up, now little did I know that Neil had decided to just know this puppy out , and surprise all of us, and here it is…the latest Target addition…with the two that just got added on the weekend this one and the new Hotel California this week that will make 4 new lessons this week…should be able to keep you all very happy..

If you haven’t checked out the modern song thread yet, please do, contribute , keep it going..and spend more time on this forum, spread new posts, answer others, start whatever thread you want,.,…the more the merrier..

Cheers all, and enjoy the Metallica classic…and one of my favourites, now If only I can get him to do Silent Lucidity by Queesnryche..

More beers I think…

Matt

Just went through the lesson and it is great. I thought I knew it but now I can see why it did not sound always right. I like the interlude in the upper frets which gives a more complete version of the whole song.

Thanks for the lesson

Marc

I have the sheet music for Silent Lucidity, its one of my all time favorites. But my fingers are not up to it yet, so I'm still hacking away at it slowly.
I would love to see Neil do a lesson on this one.

I noticed that Neil did include the TABS with the
lesson, but if you want the lyrics here they are;

"Nothing Else Matters"

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
and nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
and I know

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
and I know

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
and nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us, something new
Open mind for a different view
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they say
never cared for games they play
never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
and I know

I have different lyrics for it. Many songs of the world that I like, I've had to change the lyrics to something more acceptable to my faith. Love the music, but the meanings of the words in many cases can not be tolerated. Some are simply disgusting. This one I did not have to alter much.

Care to share 'em?

I think what I liked about this song was with
the orchestration of the original, it sounded
a little like something from the Moody Blues.

Sure. Here you go;

"Only God Matters"

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who You are
and only God matters

Never opened myself this way
Life is Gods, we live it His way
All these words I don't just say
and only God matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
and only God matters

never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
and I know

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who You are
and only God matters

never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
and I know

Never opened myself this way
Life is Gods, we live it His way
All these words I don't just say
and only God matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us, something new
Open mind for a different view
and only God matters

never cared for what they say
never cared for games they play
never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
and I know

COOL! I think you have a Christian Rock hit there.
