Thanks. How are Lanikai ukuleles? I'm looking at the LU-21 or LU21-C because I really don't want to spend over 100 bucks tops - but I'd rather spend even less - just to get started.

Both of those are bare basic beginners ukes. Nothing wrong with them.
I would go for the LU-21T instead. For a few dollars more, you get a much better instrument.

I can spring for 109 bucks on Musician's Friend.

What is different from a Tenor, Standard, Concert, and Baritone uke?

Thanks for all the help btw.

Baritone = Largest and most bass
Tenor = Larger size and more bass
Concert = Slightly larger size
Standard = small body little bass
Soprano = Smallest body, hardly any bass

Thank you kindly, sir. I may have to stop off at GuitarCenter or Sam Ash or the local guitar shop to try out a ukulele, too.

You may want to look at Oscar Schmidt's ukes. They range from $75-$350. The difference in price is always reflected in the wood type and whether the top/sides/back is laminate or solid. Mahogany and Koa are the traditional materials. I have a soprano uke and there is not much room on that fret board. If I were to do it again I would probably go for a concert size or even a tenor.

I saw those Oscar Schmidt's - and they looked like a brand that the cheaper end ones would be junk. So you'd have to spend 200 and up to get a decent one.
