WOW, thanks for the beginner level piece. Going to start on that after finishing the guitar competition. By then I'll have graduated from night school and have more time for practice. -Jim

Chas - since Maree (my Yamaha G50A) has such a high action, especially if you venture past about the 5th fret and doesn't look like it can be lowered easily, I'm considering purchasing a Yamaha CG151C - RRP is AU$699 or more likely a CG171C RRP $899. I'm hoping to get it for a little less. I've read that the Yamaha's are best by far in the less than US$1000 bracket.

I haven't played them yet. I especially haven't compared the spruce vs the cedar top. But, in a few week (probably - although the Boss has said whenever I'm ready), I think I'll go on a pilgrimage to my local guitar specialist shop.

If anyone else has other recommendations in a similar price bracket, I'm all ears.

Go for it. They sound so lovely and have a different character to the steel string, which is really soulful.

I'd love to know what you go for.

Well by now you should know I got the HIrade TH90 handcrafted by Takamine, and Nylon strings do have such a different tone and character altogether, I've hardly played anything else since I got it (no name yet) but working on it...

I am trying to learn Irish Dance, but usual video problems slowing things up somewhat... took me an hour to go through the play through last night!!

Chas - I can't wait to hear your new Takamine.

I've got the notes down and am now trying to add expression - still working on that....

I'm now considering spending more than $1000 maybe even double that if I realllllllly fall in love. But, I'll need to feel like the difference in sound and feeling - including fit, is worth the extra money. I'm hoping to get to the store this weekend so that i can start checking them out. We'll see.

Sounds like you may be progressing faster than I,when I eventually got the Play through I noted the added expression that isn't obvious in either the pdf of GPro. Its like a slight rasguedo or arpeggio one or the other lol. The vibrato might be a challenge

Vibrato, separating the notes in the chords slightly and moving my hand towards the bridge on some notes to create more 'colour' have all been challenges - but I'm enjoying them all.
