Parts 1-13.

Muriel Anderson Workshop 01 -- Getting Started

Muriel Anderson Workshop 02 -- Introduction

Muriel talks about the workshop. It will include techniques Muriel has learned, her thoughts on approaching songs and performance of some of her songs.

Muriel Anderson Workshop 03 -- Bluegrass Technique 1

On a tour in Latvia with bluegrass musicians, Muriel worked on developing bluegrass sounds from a classical guitar. Muriel produces banjo like tones with a clawhammer technique.

Muriel Anderson Workshop 04 -- Bluegrass Technique 2

Muriel continues her discussion of bluegrass technique. She discusses tone, and finger position and using a stiff hand to achieve that unique bluegrass sound.

Muriel Anderson Workshop 05 -- Tone

Muriel's early influences were folk and bluegrass and then she moved to classical. She shows the variety of tones possible by hand position, string position and finger technique.

Muriel Anderson Workshop 06 -- "Starry, Starry Night"

"Vincent" is a song by Don McLean written as a tribute to Vincent van Gogh. It is also known by its opening line, "Starry Starry Night", a reference to van Gogh's painting The Starry Night. While not a typical classical piece, Muriel brings a freshness and sensitivity to this well-known song.

Muriel Anderson Workshop 07 -- Summer Morning Rain

As Muriel works on new techniques, they are specifically to use in a song to impart an image or feeling. With her piece "Summer Morning Rain." Written in Nashville shorting before she left on a trip to Germany to record an album, she wrote it on her harp guitar to capture the feeling of a gentle rainy morning.

Muriel Anderson Workshop 08 -- Prelude to a New Morning

Muriel plays one of her compositions "Prelude to a New Morning" (a.k.a "Pentitude")

Muriel Anderson Workshop 09 -- Writing Songs

Muriel has been writing songs from an early age. Many of the songs are inspired by the sounds she hears in nature.

Muriel Anderson Workshop 10 -- Thoughts on Performance

At one time or another, students will say "I played it much better at home." The truth is that at home we weren't trying to give the best possible performance of the piece -- and that pressure is one of the things that can trip us up. Muriel talks about Christopher Parkering's master class.

Muriel Anderson Workshop 11 -- Harmonics

Muriel talks about harmonics and how she incorporates them into her songs. She talks about the technique of adding harmonic chords as accents.

Muriel Anderson Workshop 12 -- Composition

Muriel talks about the iterative process she goes through on writing songs. She'll write out a song using Finale software and then she keeps coming back to in and working with it. Each time she comes back to the piece she says to herself "is it done." Eventually it is.

Muriel Anderson Workshop 13 -- Workshop Questions

Muriel talks to the workshop participants and learns where they are in their pursuit of music. She discusses volume of playing -- find out how loud you can play and then experiment with your range.
