Here is a set of lessons from master teacher Hal Kinnaman chosen to tickle and challenge almost all ukulele students. These songs are just what you need to take your playing to the next level. This package includes some of the most beautiful and beloved from the islands, some of which are well over a century old. These memorable melodies come to us from such legendary composers as Helen Desha Beamer and Princess Likelike. There are a few slightly more contemporary songs included as well. These lessons are best done on a tenor ukulele using the Low G Tuning.

1) Kimo Hula

Kimo Hula was written by Helen Desha Beamer and is a very beautiful melody in the key of F. This piece makes full use of the right hand picking fingers and is probably the best song for the intermediate student to start with.

2) Pua Mana

Pua Mana (translation: sea breeze) has the sound of swaying palm trees and waves crashing on the sand. This piece has great vamps and variations and is a mix of strumming and fingerpicking. It is in the key of F.

3) Ka'anapali Sunset

Ka'anapali Sunset was written by Herb Ohta Jr. and first appeared on his album Ukuklele Dream in 2001. Ka'anapali is a beautiful area on the island of Maui and this song is more similar in style to slack key guitar than traditional ukulele tunes. Hal's arrangement is based on one by his friend Paul Togioka lesson

4) Pua Lilia

Pua Lilia by Alfred Una Una Alohikea (b. 1916) is an excellent composition for those seeking a deeper technical understanding of Hawaiian music. Alfred is a master of KAONA. This music has large leaps and phrases by half-step movements upwards, which is contrasted to devices of three and four note chord voicings. This piece is in the key of C Major.

5) Ku'u Ipo I Ka He'e Pue One

Ku'u Ipo I Ka He'e Pue One by Princess Likelike (c.1880), perhaps the most beautiful and famous of her compositions, with it's beautiful chord substitutions and chord voicings, it sounds as if it was written yesterday. It starts with a beautiful introduction and the music is executed all over the fingerboard. A great arrangement in the key of G.
