Hi Everyone,

Today's Target and Pay Per Lesson release is now live.

God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen is a traditional English carol that goes back a few, if not many centuries. It has a modal melody (Aeolian) that lends itself very well to a bluesy-ragtime interpretation. This version is another of many that I have to give credit to John Fahey for taking it in this direction. It is played with a steady alternating bass (Travis style), although we take the bass notes off the beats for some catchy syncopation as well.

I am loving all these chord-solo Christmas songs. Last year, I promised myself I would learn the ones that were posted then in time for this year, but of course I never got around to them. This time, definitely: I will have learned all of them in a year's time. Swear to God.

An oath (from Anglo-Saxon , also called plight) is either a statement of fact or a promise calling upon something or someone that the oath maker considers sacred, usually God, as a witness to the binding nature of the promise or the truth of the statement of fact. To swear is to take an oath, to make a solemn vow. Those who conscientiously object to making an oath will often make an affirmation instead.
