Hi Everyone,

Today's Target members only lesson is a new Fly On The Wall.

Fred had been brushing up on Lobo’s hit Me And You And A Dog Named Boo and was having a little trouble synchronizing the lyrics with the strumming. This part of the lesson focused on solving this problem and vocal phrasing techniques in general.

Enjoy!

Fred and Neil,

Unlike many TGers, I CANNOT sing and play at the same time.

This was the best lesson yet on how to do it.

Thank you Neil and Fred.

Fred and Neil:

Very nice lesson. This falls into the thread we had some time ago where we discussed the lesson format and if we should have the words over the music or not. I prefer to learn the song as it sits from the guitar part and then try to add in vocals later. It keeps me honest on the rhythm.... :P

Would love to see the finished product or maybe even a campfire clip.....

Neil

Have you done a lesson on this song? Do you plan to? Or did I miss it? Or was that the lesson in its entirety?

I might not have checked out a Fly on the Wall about, "Me and You And A Dog Names Boo", until I read some of the comments by Matt & Jason and others.

But this relatively short FOTW does a really good job on the topic of synchronizing chord changes with singing. Thanks!

It also made me think about something I think others have suggested. It would be great to have some cross referencing of skills to lessons, for example:

Singing, timing of chord changes with lyric phrasing: see FOTW with Fred from ...
Singing, starting on the right note: see FOTW with Ed from ...
Strumming 1/16ths notes: see ...
Etc
etc.

All,
Thanks for the kind words. The singing and playing on this one is still coming together, but progress is still being made. Neil's hints and feedback has really jump started this one for me.

See you soon!

Fred
