Hi Everyone,

Today's Target and Pay Per Lesson release is now live.

Cortez is another of Neil Young’s classic jamming tracks. It was released in 1975 on the Zuma album and remains a concert staple of his to this day. The rhythm part is a basic set of three chords, and although it is best to do in Double Dropped D Tuning, this lesson looks at playing it in standard as well. The real focus of the lesson is expanding the Pentatonic Scale to include the notes missing from the Major Scale when a particular chord includes that note. There are no attachments to this and it really encourages experiment rather than walking you through step-by-step instruction.

Enjoy this level 4 lesson!

I was wondering when this one would pop up. Another in the line of great NY songs to solo over (Down by the River, Cowgirl in the Sand, etc.). Well, for those that know how to solo anyway...

We have a sweet collection of NY songs going on here, only 15-20 more to go..... :P

Thanks Neil!

This should be required viewing for all intermediate guitar players. Great lesson.

Oh I DIG Cortez, the Killer :) ...the song of course not the actual conquistador.
I'm thinking there is pretty much every N. Young song a lifeform could want by now in the archives...

Thanks!

The lesson does call it out, and it is only 3 chords, so no biggie. I just didn't know if I was having a glitch on my end.

Thanks... ;)

Cool one of my favorites and good one to jam with friends on.
Inspired me to put up a recommendation for Winterlong.
Thanks!
