Hi Everyone,

Today's Target and Pay Per Lesson release is now live.

J.J. Cale was a struggling songwriter until 1970 when Eric Clapton recorded his tune After Midnight. Shortly after that Cale’s album Naturally was released which included his biggest hit, Crazy Mama. His style is very relaxed and laid back.

Crazy Mama is a simple blues progression with a slightly syncopated instrumental break. This short lesson looks at the riff and keeping the changes smooth. There is no tab or chart but you might even get it just from the Play Through in Part 2.

Enjoy this level 3 lesson!

Neil,
I am so glad to see this lesson.
Back in the 70's I had two JJ Cale albums that I just about wore out.
This is a really fun song - can't wait to get to work on it!
Thanks,
Lynn

Thanks for the lesson, Neil!

I submitted this song to the recommend a lesson over a year ago after reading Neil Young's book where he mentioned this song.

I think the Grammies show listed JJ Cale briefly as one of the musicians who died in 2013.

I remember seeing J. J. Cale back in my youth a couple of times (late 70's early 80's) at the Century II auditorium in Wichita KS. I am sorry to hear of his passing.
