Hey Willem, it's good to see you developing your verses. Gosh man you're a champion for trying this in English. That's a extra challenge for sure.

Are you putting your lyrics together with some music behind it at some point? Or are you offering ideas for the group song?

It would be good to hear you singing them.

Cool!

Hi Michelle

That is a brilliant verse. I'm totally impressed. Tom hasn't abandoned us at all he is just working independently on his own project. He'll video it for us when it's all done. Meanwhile we are going to be creating our own song. Willem and Daryl and Jean are on board to help contribute. Perhaps we can intice others.

Hi Michelle,
no haven't fallen overboard, just been working on a song that I started to write, because you guys and gals were talking songwriting. It is two verses and a chorus along the way. It's working out really well in my own opinion. I just need to put the effort in. No idea when it will be ready. I let Claire hear it tonight and she really likes it. She said it's pretty sad and emotional. So you may need hankies me hartys, :( when I finally play it. :)

Hey Tom,

That's fantastic news! I'm really looking forward to hearing it. Gosh if Claire is going to be singing your sad song too...I know I'll be a goner for sure. I think I'll need to get a box of king-size tissues.

Have fun.

Glad we don't need to send out a search party with floaties. :)

That was awesome. I loved those video demonstrations. I love the sound of adding percussion to the strumming. I've always been a finger picker and I'm just learning to use a pick so it can't be too complicated for me. Vanessa is really good at adding percussion to her strumming, and obviously so is Neil, so maybe one of them will give us some good idea's.

Thanks Willem

Just taking stock thinking through some things we'll need for the song|

- Obviously more verses
- A catchy chorus would be good, that is sung at least twice - doesn't need to be as long as the verses
- If we have a chorus, it would be great to have a slightly different progression for that to change up the sound
- a song structure - intro, Outro, how many verses, where will the choruses fit, do we want a bridge, is there an instrumental section
- what sort of instrumentation are we going for?
Once it's pretty well together - dynamics and other stuff for making it more interesting and taking the listener on a journey emotionally.
- what length of song are we aiming for (not 10 minutes I'm guessing). :)

Most of this will develop as the song does. But, it doesn't hurt to keep it in mind. Like how many verses are we likely to need.

Food for thought.

Percussive playing is cool to be sure.

I haven't watched it yet, iPad, but I will this evening.

Hi guys

Here is another verse, it may be like a first verse instead of that goofy thing I wrote earlier: This one is more pirate like

We sailed upon a barkadeer thread,
we brethren of the coast
Blimey, is that a picaroon
hanging a bit of the jib?
Once we had a taste of the cat
we sailed to the open waters
before we had to walk the plank
to Davy Jones' locker

you can look up pirate terms on the internet and get all kinds of very cool pirate terminology, not that anyone else will know what it means or anything, but its still fun.

My gosh Sandy your head is on fire with song story possibilities. This feels like a new song again from the sick pirate one.

So many possibilities for the group song. So besides the love song Sandy is developing and Daryl's octopuses garden number, it looks like we've got at least four or is it five different songs emerging that all use the F Bb G progression which could be turned into a group project if people want to do that. They look something like the following.

I looks like the song story is still in flux. I'll wait for the ideas to settle and for a preferred story to come to the surface before I write more.

But I might still record the progression this evening and post that perhaps. I'm pretty sure my offerings don't match the meter on Neil's progression and would need adjusting. The progression track would help us develop further stuff and refine what we have already.

Who knew that pirates was such a fertile song-writing ground. :) :) :)

Progression: all bar chords. Fast strumming.

G Bb/ G Bb/ G Bb
G Bb/ G Bb/ G Bb
F F#/ G

Legend of the TG Mutiny
I clicked on the link and to my surprise
There they opened up before my eyes
One hundred twenty-seven Forum replies
It was a TG mutiny!
It was quite a sight to see!

We had Shel, Willem and Dermot, too
Sandy, with her her rooster and the rest of the crew
You can never tell what they're going to do
On this ship of bloody good mates!
We've set sail with bloody good mates!

They came together from the seven seas
With swords and plungers and amputees
For a little bit of banter and repartee
Oh those bloody good mates!
They're all such bloody good mates!

So come on all you pirates with a line or two
And post to the Forum with what's bugging you
You'll be sure to get a answer from this motley crew
As they respond to the other good mates!
Because were all such bloody good mates!

Pirate Minstrel
I am a pirate, a pirates minstrel
Not with one leg or an hook,
Or with earring and tattoo.
Not with a wicked soul but one with a uke.
Sometimes my lips build a castle
Sometimes they just fall off
Whoa oh oh, whoa oh oh, whoa oh
Lets float this bloody old boat
Yo ho Yo oh, some of the lines I stole

I am a pirate, a pirates minstrel
Not a lady killer, thats Robin Hood
Not with a parrot or with scare
Sometimes tapping my foot
Sometimes sweeping the floor
Mmmmmmmm etc (with melody) common lets roll
Common lets Rock!! and roll you bloody good mates
Yo ho yo ho Jumping Jack Flash

Dying Pirate
They say I'm dying
It's time to go
Packing my bags
I'm ready you know
Said bye to my friends
Gonna miss ya though
I've had a great time.

Verse 2?
My bags of treasure
So bright and so bold
Oh my darlings
The memories they hold
Each one a victory
So shiny, so sweet
I'll recount a few,
come sit at my feet

Verse 3?
My inky captain's hat
A favourite of mine
Smell and taste the salty grime
Been knocked in the drink
Been skewed to my ear
Blackbeard shot a musket ball
right through here
Love this blood stained hat.

Once we had a taste of the cat, we sailed back to the open waters

Hi Michelle

I separated the lyrics in a different way, on the most recent verse that I submitted, so that it has the same cadence as the rest of the poem. I just edited the original post, so you'll find the changes there. I think we can just forget about that death verse that I wrote unless you think we can still use it. Let me know what you think.
