Hi Everyone,

We have a new addition to the Fly on the Wall lesson with Marc.

Marc’s lesson continued with a discussion on Dominant Seventh chords, the way they normally resolve, alternate resolutions, and how they are used in a cycle, or chain of Secondary Dominants. We touched on songs that demonstrate the idea, including Alice’s Restaurant and Five Foot Two, before listening to Arlo Guthrie’s “Ring Around The Rosey Rag”, another great example of using the string of Dominant chords.

Part 5 carries on with our Dominant discussion, starting with the fingering I suggest for the ‘E’ family of barre chords when fingerpicking. We then got into techniques for figuring out fingerpicking songs by ear. It starts with working on the ability to focus in on a single component rather than listening to the complete picture.

Part 6 began with Marc asking about The Chambers Brothers’ classic, Time Has Come Today. The basic progression triggerd a discussion about modes and relationships in keys. We ended the lesson listening to The Kinks and chatting about a variety of unrelated topics.

Enjoy!
