Hi Everyone,

Today's Target and Pay Per Lesson release is now live.

Everybody knows Mason Williams for Classical Gas but his scrapbook is full of nuggets of great music. As a writer on The Smothers Brothers Show in the late 1960s he collaborated with some of the most creative minds of the era.

This short instrumental shows how a simple idea can be developed into a very catchy tune, with tongue held firmly in cheek. I worked this out after a short conversation with Mason, who was considering being a guest artist at out 2014 International Guitar Camp at the time.

Maybe next year.

Enjoy this level 7 lesson!

Definitely a type of Ragtime feel to this tune. Not every Ragtime piece is fast and bouncy. Scott Joplin wrote some beautiful ballads, check out Solace and Heliotrope Bouquet as examples.

Hey Walt,

I'll try to address this on the News tomorrow if there's time. I play a version in Dropped D similar to Stefan's based on an arrangement by Leo Wijnkamp from a Kicking Mule album, 1970-something. Maybe I'll track it down tonight.
