You haven't heard me sing Daryl, so I'm the better judge of the sadness impact of such a performance...

Dermot
Dean I think thee were only two, this is the other. This point is on my mind because I was looking for a couple of lessons Neil did a while ago. They were an invitation to take a suggested chord progression and see if you could come up with something original, lyrics or a picking pattern, a chord melody etc. I wanted to revisit it but didn't know where to look. By my count there are over 80 links on the main page, not including sub-menus, and I couldn't find the lessons.
Dermot
Dean and Dermot (you nearly became Kermit ), thanks for resurrecting this thread. It's a fun challenge. Personally, I've got imagines of chicken chasing in my head. it may become a homage to TG's farmers. we'll see. First I have to get home so I can start strumming.

Your 'goodbye daddy, goodbye mammy 'section.s, are they sung against Neil's 3rd phrase, the one that starts with C? Just wondering whether it is a sort of chorus and the other two go together to create a verse?
Thanks

David,Time to kick this off then...
Country Trope #2
Walking down that road heading out for
somewhere i've never been
gonna find that far distant mountain
going where the air is fresh and clean
Goodbye daddy
goodbye mama
say goodbye to Auntie May
give my clothes to the Salvation Army
what i need for, i'll get on the way
-----------------------------
Last year my friend Billy got married to Suzy
but that wasn't quite so unique
Brother John and Cindy, Terry and Lucy
If i stay it'll be my turn next week
Goodbye daddy, goodbye mama
say goodbye to Marilee
Now I'm walking down that road heading somewhere
I'm joining the band of the free
-----------------------------------
Snow's been deep thoughout these last winters
couldn't see no light up in the sky
all the things that the Lord never sent us
maybe they'll be here by and by
Goodbye daddy, goodbye mama
say farewell to Peggy Sue
all my friends and my own true relations
i'm heading down that road for something new,
but I'll see you all next time I'm passing through
nb final verse has 4 extra bars on D before return to G at the end.. my attempt at a Kistofferson ending.
seeya soon, David

Hi Michele.. yep that's correct. i just had to go back to Neil's video to check it (it has been a while haha) , but the "Goodbye Mama etc' section is a chorus starting on the C chord. I think i give it one beat and then 'Goodbye' comes in on beat 2, the next 'Goodbye' phrase would be on beat 2 of the G chord.
Tombo - thx for your kind comments. there was one other songwriting collaboration which was 'And Winter Glows' ..i think there were several more regualr forum members put in lyrics on that one and Neil's guitar work was much more elaborate.

Thanks David. I'm actually having a heap of fun playing this tonight. I suspect I might write a country cliche song. hammer-ons and runs all the way.Hi Michele.. yep that's correct. i just had to go back to Neil's video to check it (it has been a while haha) , but the "Goodbye Mama etc' section is a chorus starting on the C chord.
