Although the GP6 file ins my interpretation of what I wrote in the diagram
in GP 6 it doesn't sound quite right a touch fast. In the lesson Vanessa was playing at 90 BPM.
At 90 BPM my file sounds too fast so I reduced it to 75 BPM but somethings not right.

Although what I wrote seems correct, the file I'd like to improve......
I'm not quite sure how to fix the GP file to sound less crammed / mechanical.

Maybe use the "let it ring" possibility,, not sure,

Vanessa

I'm still trying to work out how to write out the notation for what I hear.
The reason I am persisting with this practice is because I find it difficult to keep track of which beat of the measure I'm on.

I'm now looking a Creep measures 9 and 10 of the tab and listening to your play through.

If each measure gets 4 beats.
What you play for measure 10 seems short on beats for a full measure.
I can play measure 9 as you do G - Gsus4 - G but then you play a short UDU D for measure 10

How are you counting these measures ?

Thanks

Dermot

Hey Dermot,

I haven't relistened to Vanessa's playthrough with your question in mind, but I just wanted to remind you that while Ness aims to include all of the things she teaches in a lesson in her playthrough, invariably the tab is going to be a little different to the playthrough, especially in a strumming song where she's encouraging people to play a little randomly.

Maybe she's even getting a little fluid with timing here and there to give it extra omph! Maybe as Dean suggested, you're better off spending time working on playing randomly than being worried about recording exactly what Ness is playing.

I hope we might see a video of your efforts in this department at some point. While posting is a bit nerve wracking, it's the best way to get advice on what you're ACTUALLY doing, rather than what you think your doing while playing. Just close your eyes and jump.

Hi Michelle

I'm not asking about the randomness of the strumming of the lesson.

I just want to understand writing down the notation.
I chose Creep because I've been working on it.

If measure 10 is short on a few beats for one reason or another ....if confirmed I'm correct....
then I'll know I'm counting it correctly that's why I asked the question.

I hear you. You want to know if you're hearing it and writing it correctly. Got it.

If you count the beats of the metronome which Vanessa's playing against, you should be able to count to 4 for measure 10 before the move to B. If that is not clear to you then I think you're missing something larger than can be explained in a text chat. Have you thought about getting some one on one teaching? If there are fundamentals which elude you it might be the best option.
All the best, happy strumming :)

I'm on my way to Switzerland Dermot, in like 5 minutes.

I don't know what to say which is useful for now. But no the tabs aren't short of beats, and obviously my playing ain't short of beats either. But I'm sure I"m not playing exactly what's in the tabs. I wouldn't have a clue. I don't care too.

As for writing it down. One beat is 1 ee and ah, down up down up.....that's it.

Ness (off now!)
