Hi everyone,
Today's Target and Pay Per Lesson release is now live, Ol’ 55 by Tom Waits.
A very early song from Tom Waits, Ol’ 55 was released on his first album, Closing Time (1973), although by then he was doing most of his songs on piano.
In the 1990s, a couple albums were issued titled “The Early Years” and they included many guitar versions of his songs.
This lesson is based on the version heard on Volume 2 (1993). It is done in a slightly free-form fingerpicking style in the key of A, using a few barre chords from the “A” family, although some easier options are addressed.
Enjoy this level 5 lesson!

I remember Ol' 55 done by the Eagles which was on the On The Border album. Not a popular song for them but catchy and I didn't realize the Waits wrote it. I even recall Sarah McLachlan doing a cover of this on one of her albums too.
Darn you Neil, you keep adding songs faster than I can keep up. Well another one to add to list to learn.

And this was the version that I knew.....turned out to be a Tom Waits cover.
A live take, unfortunately no video. Actually my favorite dutch group/duo. Awesome songs and lyrics. This is one of their few covers, in general they've written everything they've recorded.
