Hi everyone,

Today's Target and Pay Per Lesson release is now live, Apache by The Shadows

The Shadows are a British instrumental group and Cliff Richard’s backing band.
One of their most popular hits is Apache, written by Jerry Lordan, and recorded
in 1960.

This lesson covers the progression and the rhythm guitar part, which consists
mostly of basic open chords in first position.

The strumming is in double time, as performed by The Shadow’s rhythm guitar
player, Bruce Welch, but it can be done at the speed of 8th’s, including a bounce,
as well.

We also take a look at the lead guitar part, which was originally recorded on an
electric guitar. It requires techniques like vibrato, bends, slides, palm muting, but
should be relatively playable on any guitar for most intermediate guitar players.

Enjoy this level 4 song!

TGNess,

Trust you to make this sound AWESOME on an acoustic guitar. Gosh that sounded good.

There you go again shaking things up. I didn't see that one coming. Well you teach something different so often that I'm often delightedly surprised.

Very cool. B)

Thanks Ness. I enjoy that.

That's awesome to hear Shel! I think it sounds great on an acoustic guitar as well, just wasn't sure about everyone else. Funny enough, I used to play the electric guitar all the time as a kid and teenager, but i still performed this one on an acoustic. It actually didn't occur to me at all, until now.

I'm pleased to hear that I can still surprise you with my song choices. :)

Many thanks honey! xo

Thanks Chris, I'm glad you think so! The Shadows should be in Target for sure, they have some gorgeous and playable songs too. There is one more in the pipeline, pretty much my favorite, but way more challenging than Apache. Both the rhythm and the lead guitar part. Probably next week. :)

I got a lot out of this lesson and welcome more surf tunes from TG. I'm wondering if there could and/or should be a version of this song that combines both the lead riffs with the background harmony. Neil usually has a version of a song that is all-encompassing and that would certainly be useful here too with Vanessa. Thanks, Jeff Stephan
