Today Nesh brings us a classic from the 1950's – In The Still Of The Night, the sound of doo-wop!

The Five Satins are an American doo-wop group, best known for their 1956 million-selling song ‘In The Still Of The Night’.

The progression was done in the key of F#, which can be easily transposed to the key of E, where the guitar is capoed on the 2nd fret. Another way could be the key of G, by far the easiest, with all strings tuned down a half step to Eb-Ab-Db-Gb-Bb-Eb.

Then again, I’m a firm believer to play a song in the key which suits ones vocal range the best, so the key of C and D are mentioned too.

The chords in any key would be I, IV, V, Vi and ii. One could leave out chord ii since I’ve seen The Five Satins occasionally do the same.

All in all, a relatively easy song which could be played in any of the guitar friendly keys.

Of course, we take a look at the strumming. There are a few different ways of doing that as well.
