Hey Gang,

There was a recent request for a lesson on Baker Street, which I did not think would be a good guitar lesson at first. As soon as I listened to it more carefully I realized I was wrong. Here is my take on how I might play it to accompany a vocalist, along with a few tangents into the sax intro and a bit of the melody.

Baker Street was a hit for Gerry Rafferty in 1978. The song started with an iconic sax line, like many of the tunes from the late 1970s. Aside from the sax lines, the song consists of just two main sections, Verse A and Verse B as we have chosen to label them.

This lesson looks mostly at how to accompany the vocal on just an acoustic guitar. This includes the chord progression, with some percussive picking thrown in, and even a look at the opening chord inversions.
