I continue to get this message whenever I try to access the Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced lessons. It also happens sometimes when I try to access a song lesson. I have tried every thing that has been suggested. I have deleted cookies, temp files, and history, and I have tried Firefox. Nothing has helped. Here is the entire message:

Wow. You have some sort of freak recursion in your system. While the guys check your profile out for errors, I'd run some heavy duty virus scans and a registry cleaner.

Good on ya Andy, I had one look and was too scared to even attempt to figure out his problem.. Way out of my comfort zone..

If I have a problem, I must have gotten it from this site. I don't have this problem anywhere else. I already have good virus protection.

I've never had any reason to suspect any viruses or malware on this site.
Checking for viruses and malware was a reasonable suggestion in that clearing the temporary files and cookies should have fixed your problem.

I've been building and repairing computers since before DOS (my earliest memories are of when dirt was invented) and haven't come up with any other concrete ideas. However, you might try clearing everything again while in 'safe mode'. Press the F8 key repeatedly while booting and select 'safe mode' from the menu that comes up. Do the clearing. Then reboot normally and try the TG site again.

If that fails maybe some third party cleaner so that neither ie nor firefox have to be running while cleaning. It could make a difference. Sorry, I don't really have any particular cleaner to recommend. If I resort to such things, I do it manually, which is beyond what I'd try to explain here.

The TG support guys may have some ideas, but you'll need to submit the problem through the support link.

Mark

I'm with Map on this one. I've started playing with computers back when the latest advance was the wheel. Checking for viruses and Malware/Scamware is ALWAYS a good idea when you have a problem like this one. No matter what virus protection you use normally.

This type of problem comes from a faulty write operation. For some reason (usually a malicious program) changes a local variable and everything written based on that register is corrupted. It does not mean that you are infected, it just means that something happened. And believe it or not, it could possibly have been cosmic radiation impacting your hard drive and changing a single bit to screw you up. The Space Shuttle had that exact thing happen on one of its flights. Thats why we have backups.

Mark, do you recall the old IBM plugboards to setup the 5211 card punchers? what a nightmare! LOL

Hey drawlr

Try this its a product called onecare available from the Microsoft site you can run it without buying. http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm
You'll need to use internet explorer as it won't run in firefox being a Microsoft product you shouldn't be suppressed. It can scan for viruses & spyware it will also scan and fix your registry. Probably no need to do the defrag scan as this will take quite a while.
If that doesn't work it could be a profile related issue on your PC maybe go into the computer manager and create a new profile don't delete your old one just create the new one login and test. You'll find computer manager when you right click my computer and select manage.

Cheers Rod...

I would suggest Ad-Aware from Lavasoft. This is a free programm which will remove annoying and/or malicious links. It normally implies that you have to run it, reboot and run it again. My kids used to get a fair amount of junk from the game sites and Ad-Aware always did the job. Even if you have a good antivirus you get that junk somtimes as it is not necessarely virus but live cookies that keeps open links. So I doubt very much the issue you described comes from TG as other people would have noticed it. Actually once it will detect the problem, it will tell you where it is coming from.

Give it a shot

Marc

Hi all

I personally wouldn't use MS onecare, reviews are poor and it is about to be replaced by a free product from uncle Bill called Morrow.
Ad aware is a reasonable product even used it in the past.

BUT I don't think this is the problem.

I have had the same bad request message a few times and all to do with my browser (yes i use firefox) each time I had to clear data to get it to work propelly, some times I had to manually clear data to make sure everything is cleared out, which is a pain putting passwords in again, but it worked.

Question is are you still having problems drawlr or have you fixed it?
If not what have you tried?

I've had this problem a couple of times with Firefox. I deleted all the rokModTools cookies from the cookie jar and regained access. I didn't loose any passwords or other information by doing this.

The procedure to do this is
1. Open the Options menu Tools->Options...
2. Click on the Privacy tab at the top of the Options menu (eye icon)
3. Click on the Show Cookies... button in the middle segment. A Cookies dialog will open.
4. In the Cookies dialog search bar type "rokM" (without the quotation marks). You will see a list of cookies with site=totallyguitars.com and Cookie Name=rokModTools
5. For each of these cookies, highlight the cookie by clicking on the line, and then click the Remove Cookie button. Repeat until no more rokModTools cookies remain
6. Click on Close in the Cookie dialog, then Cancel in the options menu

Hope this helps
