I purchased Guitar pro 5 a couple of months ago for $49.99. I thought it would make learning songs and reading music much easier. Now TG is using the guitar pro 6 format and I am no longer able to download the new songs coming out via GUITAR PRO because you must buy the newest model of GUITAR PRO 6 for $39.99. I don't want or need another updated greater version of guitar pro. I can barely use guitar pro 5 now. This is wrong forcing us to buy the updated version just to read the tabs on Totally Guitars site.....

Guitar Pro 6
Hey Patty
This is unfortunately nothing to do with us..it appears that Gpro are not backwards compatible at present, but they claim they are working on a fix..So we will keep you advised on that..I think it sucks too..
Will let you know what we can do on this as soon as we can

A workaround is to get a site member to export the GP6 to ASCII send it to you then you import it to GP5, i've tried to do the Midi and XML export import thing but ASCII works best you would then need to copy the notation from the PDF if it had notation, maybe TG could come to the party there and print the PDF with notation, i'm pretty sure the PDF are only GP exports anyway so shouldn't be a biggy for them.
I just did this with Black Dog and it worked, but the notation gets screwed up a bit.
Temporary fix at least till GP gets the act together.

One way to address this issue is if TG sticks with GP5 format for now. Although GP6 is not backwards compatible, GP5 is forward compatible, so GP6 users would be fine with GP5 files. A lot of veteran GP users report various problems with GP6 and are going back to GP5 (see the lengthy comments on their facebook page). If TG sticks with GP5 and posts those files, everyone would be set because GP6 users can still load the GP5 file. Posting GP6 files could be delayed until an updated version makes it possible to export a GP5-compatible file (which is supposed to be in the works).

TG Staff, Please consider just using Guitar Pro 5 for now. Do we really need the files in guitar pro 6? Patty
