At the risk of being viewed as a cheapskate, free loading, penny- pinching, dollar- stretching ,tight wad.
I would like to make the following suggestion, but first,

Allow me to prove my altruistic generous nature, a generous nature, let me share this cost saving advice.

For those who can’t afford a doctor,,,,,,, go to the airport - you’ll get a free x-ray, breast exam, and ; if you mention Al Qaeda… you’ll a free colonoscopy.

Now speaking of free, in particular free lessons… ( I know you folk are tired of hearing about this, but as I said before…. Baby don’t cry…….Baby don’t eat.).

May I respectfully offer this:

Since most of the free lessons are campfire, and brief and simpler in nature is an embellishment on an existing free lesson.

For example: Instead of a new campfire free lesson, a lesson could be added occasionally (say once month or so) to an already existing free lesson that would include some detailed information, to embellish what’s already offered.

Perhaps some song intro information, a lead a tasty riff, alternate chords voicing, or a few chord melody, passing chords, or maybe a few words on theory.

The addendum lessons could be kept brief 1-2 minutes.( Don’t want to give away too much).

As mentioned, this could be done as a supplemental information lessons to existing lessons or to new lessons after the initial release.

Again, the information could be offered embellishment lessons, as an alternative to adding another campfire song.

This approach would certainly add interest and value to the existing lessons, and most importantly keep us growing in overall knowledge and skill. and that a good thing.

In the word of a wise man… a generous soul, will himself be freely watered.

Well there it is.

G'day frybaby,
I just had a look at the free lessons on this site currently there is over 60 completely free lessons. That's pretty amazing when you consider that this is not a free site.
At the rate I learn songs if a new more in depth lesson was introduced every month or so then I may as well discontinue my subscription.
The way I see it the free section is already getting too big, and I wonder how many people there are who haven't signed up to Target because the free section is always growing?
l also believe that TG will only survive if we continue to encourage people to join Target, the team who run this great site do this for a living and free stuff doesn't pay wages.
I do understand that some people are going through tough times and may not be able to join because of that and for them I hope things improve soon.
just my thoughts
cheers Scott

Hey Crybaby, I have to agree with Scott. I don't know what a current subscription costs, but I know that whatever it is, it's a great value. This site will not survive without the support of all those that realize what a great deal TG is. To enjoy all of the free stuff on this site and then ask for more is an unrealistic expectation. If you don't think that you are getting enough out of the free side then the answer is to join the Target program. I'm sure that if you were to join you would not regret it. The cost is not so much that a little juggling of the budget would probably be worth it in the end. I look forward to seeing you on the other side.

Dave

Quit buying that darn kangaroo beer and you'll have enough money to join.

(I should speak! I'm too poor/tight/parsimonious/etc. to join, too!) Seriously, my next casino win goes to Target!

Even if the bailiffs were knocking at the door.... I think my TG subscription would be the very last thing I'd cancel.
Er, who's that knocking at the door....? :-)

Hi Frybaby,

I do think that the Target program is a great value and that Neil has already been very generous with the free lessons. But I've also been thinking about your interest in digging down deeper into some of the tunes that are covered as "campfire" songs. There are a lot of campfire sections in the Target section as well and I'd love to see more detailed coverage of some of those. But, even aside from commercial considerations, I doubt very seriously that it's going to happen in the way you imagine.

However, I think you'll find that a lot of us have been working on some of those campfire songs (both paid and free) and I'm sure that there'd be no objection to sharing that knowledge within the community. Just now, for example, I've been working on Neil's campfire lesson of "That'll be the day," which I think is coming along now pretty close to the original recorded version. I'll eventually post that to either to student upload or busking section, but wouldn't mind taking the time to record a short video explaining what I've done if I could find an appropriate place to post it. I'm sure others have developed some of the campfire songs in their repertoire further, too and can't think of any good reason why we shouldn't share what we've learned here somewhere.

Wow! There's plenty of free stuff here . . . . enough to become a really good player, if you are clever enough to put it all together. The people here (this includes the owners, staff, Target, and non-Target members) are very generous in what they already give away.

You'll get back what you contribute x10. This is one of the great lessons of life, and it's fair to all. So, come help us bake the bread. If you can't afford Target, take all the free stuff here and become the best player that you can. It may take you a bit longer that way, but you can do it, and you may learn some other lessons along the way.

Hey Stuart..

Thx for responding in this thread..

We at TG that is Neil and I , do not want you guys to share what he teaches you with people who don't pay, this is not something that we want to see happen, it undermines everything we do here..so please refrain from that idea, share it amongst Target members sure, but not in the open community if you can mate

Thx for listening
