Oh, forgot to say where I purchased the Tull stuff -- iTunes, where I buy most of my music these days. Also, now that I think about it, I HAVE in fact bought a fair amount of stuff by Rev. Gary, John Hurt, and others, that I knew of, but didn't actually own, often for reference on specific lessons. I also, just for example, downloaded a whole bunch of versions of "Never Goin' Back Again" (the song that brought me here as a customer in the first place.) "Windy and Warm," too, and covers of "Take On Me" (which, by the way, has become the favorite of people I play for, including strangers - I worked out a chord-solo version that's actually pretty easy.) I even got a few different versions of "Embryonic Journey," and I haven't even gotten around to that lesson yet.

So I guess I've bought more stuff than I had realized as a direct result of being a member here. I discovered new versions of several things, but no songs I can think of that were entirely novel to me (maybe some of the old country blues numbers). Pretty much all from iTunes. In a few isolated cases, I illicitly downloaded stuff (I don't remember exactly what), but I do that only when it's absolutely unavailable for purchase.

Jeez, how could I forget? The other day I bought "Sleight of Hand," from iTunes. I doubt I'll get to the whole lesson any time soon, just because of the giant pile of stuff in front of me, lessons and otherwise, but I would like to mess around with some parts of it, at least. So, that was new to me for sure.

I reckon i spend at least $20 a week on average on iTunes (probably more) because of TG; due to the lessons, people's posts, discussions on the forum. I've added the following artists to my collection:

Jim Croce
CSNY - 4 Way St, esp very cool.
Anouk
America
Adele
Eddie Vedder
The Allman Brothers
Creedence
Dave Matthews
Decemberist :)
Doobie Brothers
Elleni Mendell :)
Black
Extreme :)
Eric Roche :)
Hector Garcia
Neil Hogan
James Taylor
Jethro Tull
John Mayer
John Renbourne :)
John Rouse :)
Muriel Anderson :)
Kina Grannis :cheer:
The Kinks
Lizz Wright :)
Metallica
Moody Blues
Nancy Wilson
More Neil Young than I ever thought I would
Newton Faulkner :)
Pink Floyd
Racoon :)
Robbie Williams
Robert Plant
Turtles
Weezer :)
The Zombies

It's a long list. I've acquired it over about two years.

I'm sure I've missed lots of individual songs. I've also added more of artists I did have.

Yes - I DO live under a rock actually.

Yes - I know my collection was incredibly lacking. But, it's getting fatter to be sure.

What did I listen to before.... ???

The ones with emoticons are the ones I'd never heard of.

It's been a great adventure.

Of course, Tommy Emmanuel.

And through Chris I've developed an enduring fondness for Amy Walker.

An artist that I didn't "discover" through TG, but rather "discovered a love for" is Neil Young. Obviously I knew who NY was, and I knew a lot of his big hits, but I didn't own a single album of his. I then saw Jayswett's version of Needle and the Damage Done, and that inspired me to watch the lesson, learn the song, and then go out and buy Harvest. After that I discovered Harvest Moon, first the song and the lesson on the song and then the album of the same name. Lastly, I bought Live at Massey Hall, because Neil recommends it in some Neil Young video and it was also recommended to me by AcousticAl. With all three of those, I bought a physical cd, 2 from a big box store and one from my local record store.

I forgot to mention in my last post where I bought the Ray Lamontagne album- I got that at my local record store, too.

Definitely the Progressive Rock works. When I was in high school, you couldn't listen to the FM station that played Prog Rock because if anyone found out, you were branded a drug user - by the school administration! So while I heard a little Prog Rock, I couldn't tell anybody. I am afraid to say too much even now for fear of being accused of using Lipitor and Viagra!

The one thing I didn't see coming, though, is my interest in solo artists. I have bought numerous CD's from locals I saw play at fairs, farmers' markets, and open mic nights, and I spend most of my entetainment money at Candyrat Records on Antoine Dufour, Don Ross, Pino Forastiere, etc, with special emphasis on Gareth Pearson. Any fan of Tommy Emmanuel NEEDS to see Gareth Pearson play live. He's like Tommy on steroids and 40 years younger. You want oxygen after Tommy's show. You want medical attention after Gareth's!

I tried to buy some Prog Rock CD's at retail stores, but not much available around here. This is a direct result of the Prog Rock tunes in TARGET. Candyrat doesn't sell retail; all those purchases are online at their website. They also sell trancriptions for many of the tunes on their albums.

Can't really name any bands that I have "discovered" due to TG, but , like many others, I have learned more about some artists that I had previously ignored. First and foremost is Neil Young. I liked a few of his songs, but never really paid much attention. That has certainly changed due to TG. I was also a fan of ELP already, but did not know much about Greg Lake himself. That has changed as well. I have also purchased one of his solo albums since..... :) :)

Neil- Great question!! Two come to mind:

1. Blackmore's Night. I think you mentioned them in passing with regard to Renaissance-style music. Although Candice Night has a great voice and is very easy on the eyes, I'm most impressed with Ritchie Blackmore's guitarwork. Especially his move from hard rock to this unique style. I've purchased a couple of their albums on Amazon where I buy almost all my music.

2. Ray LaMontagne. I don't know how I missed this guy but your lesson on Beg, Steal or Borrow really hooked me. I love his voice. Again, an Amazon purchase.

Caravan might be a third although I knew of them I've never listened to them much. I downloaded the TARGET lesson fom Amazon.

Cheers! :cheer:
