Hi y'all,

This year I've decided to have more fun. No, I'm not going blond or getting a Harley. though I'm open to other suggestions. ;). If the Mayans have it right then there's no time to lose right?

For the first half of this year I'm going to learn or refresh simple strumming songs that I like and are fun to sing or if not fun just great songs, ones I can keep in my head pretty easily.

So what are your favourite simple songs, your favourite three or four chord songs?

Anyone want to start a three/four chord song busking thread or at least join me if I do?

Shel

I'm game. Isn't there a 2 chord song by America? Horse With No Name?

Indeed there is. Is it a favourite that you play a lot?

And woo Hoo, don't wait for me to start the busking thread if the mood takes you. :)

No. I don't typically play 2 chord songs. They get kinda repetitious. :silly: :woohoo:

Rick- Great song! Though at first I thought it was "Dirty Boulevard" from the same album. Now I'm wondering if it's the same chord progression!!

Shel- this is a good topic, and I love the idea of everyone chiming in with some of their favorite "easy to play" songs. You mentioned "Midnight Train to Georgia" to me, and that was one I'd never even thought of checking out but definitely will do now!

One of my favorite "easy" songs is Runaround Sue. It's a classic 1,6,4,5 progression (thank you Dave at TotallyKeyboards for teaching me about that!). A is usually a good key for my voice, so I'll play it in G, capod at the 2nd. If you play it in G, the verses are all: G, Em, C, D, but you can obviously transpose it into any other key and just keep that 1,6,4,5 progression. The bridge changes slightly, to 4,6,4,5 (C,G,C,D in my example).

Another good one, and from a Wisconsin native, is Steve Miller's The Joker. The verses are all G,C, D,C (1,4,5,4) and the chorus is GC GC GCDC x2 (1,4, 1,4, 1,4,5,4).

I'm looking forward to hearing about some more!

Sure I'm game! ;)

favorites.....hmmm.....:

Peaceful Easy Feeling - Eagles
Leaving on a Jetplane - John Denver
Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi
Blaze of Glory - Bon Jovi
Hard letting you go - Bon Jovi
One - U2
Father Figure - George Michael
Summer of 69 - Bryan Adams
Hey there Delilah
Running to stand still - U2

Helplessly Hoping - CSN

Hmmm....just 3 or 4 chords, no 5 or 6, no? :P

Shel:

This is kind of what I have been up to for a while.... :)

Getting some fum strumming songs figured out and trying to learn them to play for simple pleasure...

A really fun one comes to mind:

Lucky Man - The Verve - G D A (maybe Asus2) in the verses and then Em G D A in the Chorus
