Hi to Totally Guitars!

I just want to say the music Neil Hogan plays is fantastic.

Regardless of whether I get better at guitar, Neil Hogan has increased no end my appreciation of great songs - what an ace musician!

Many thanks to Totally Guitars from London-England!
- Tom O'Riordan

PS - here's my "Hogan's Hero" for 2014 - Wilko Johnson.
- sorry for old joke as I am a 50+ geezer!

Wilko Johnson's machine-gun Telecaster chops were a huge influence on punk rock - Sex Pistols, Clash, Stranglers, Jam etc - specifically in the album Down By The Jetty by Dr Feelgood.

Another hero of mine is Viv Stanshall and the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.

The Bonzos paved the way for Monty Python - they're a blast and a hoot in the Beatles film A Magical Mystery Tour, and the band's UK top-ten hit I'm The Urban Spaceman was co-produced by Paul McCartney credited as Apollo C. Vermouth.

Viv Stanshall's songwriting partner and co-leader in the Bonzos - Neil Innes - went on to create The Rutles with Eric Idle from Monty Python - playing Ron Nasty and Dirk McQuickly, styled on John Lennon and Paul McCartney respectively.

Many thanks again to Totally Guitars !!

Down By The Jetty and Stupidity are the best of Dr Feelgood - plus Oil City Confidential by Julien ("Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle") Temple.

During Stupidity there'd been a Mexican standoff in the Feelgoods - Wilko Johnson quit his own band. It reminds you of Big Star - Chris Bell and Alex Chilton.

Tom:

I was surprised to see someone else mention Big Star! I knew nothing of them until a few years ago. I missed out on so many great bands as a younger kid (growing up in the hair band and heavy metal days of the 80's.. ).

I really enjoyed this tune from them as well..... "Thirteen"

P.S. - Welcome to the site, from Southern California, USA

Is Thirteen the best Big Star song?
- I'm only guessing because southern soul is something else and so special - and I'm only guessing because I'm British not American.

imho - in the 80s and 90s it was US rock bands who had the best tunes - Olympic gold melodies and a ton of feeling.

In my formative music years - the early 70s - Led Zep were the real deal. Anyway Coronation Street beckons - nighty night!
