Well ... sounds better than: "like a bowling ball" :side:

Perhaps Michele has the comma in the wrong spot? Does the lyric (and song) make more sense if the line was:

She moves, her body like a cannonball

Well your answers are cracking me up. :) :)

"...like an ol' U-Haul". "...Like a bowling ball." Well I wouldn't want to be described that way either. :)

"And then explodes" Exactly Daryl!!!!! :)

Fast and straight... Yep, that might work. Thanks Bill.

"A refrigerator with a head" haha! Now there's an image. We have another saying here that comes to mind. It describes someone who's solid muscle and big, ... But it's a little crass, so for fear of offending people I've deleted it and I'll leave it to your imagination or memory. Or PM me if you're dead curious and willing to risk it. ;)

Willem - thanks for the link. The term cannonball does seem to feature in country/folk music.

So perhaps is it as simple as it rhymes with "tall" and was originally sung about a man.

OK Jean, I'll take your approach. It's a good one. Just sing it, don't worry that it's a little strange.

Thanks everyone. I was hoping we could have fun with this one and you've definitely given me a few giggles.

Hey Jean - want to rant about some of the lyrics you find particularly ridiculous in America's songs?

Man, bad lyrics are annoying for sure, having said that I have managed to ignore it in AMERICA songs because, as Jean points out, the music is so good. But normally inane lyrics spoils it all for me big time. I would like to add the to great lyricists list Dan Fogelberg and Gordon Lightfoot. Dan for his poetry and Gordo for his story-telling. Al Stewart heads the list, probably.

So, the cannonball line is what would be known in sporting commentary circles as Coleman-balls, like when the great BBC sports commentator David Coleman famously said when commentating the 400 mtrs Olympic finals in Montreal, "And Juantorena opens his legs and shows his class!" Or when the legendary Rugby commentator Eddy Warring said (after one player punched another in the head), "They're all enemies on the field but all good friends in the showers!"

In that sense I guess its just Lyricists-balls. :-)

PS: Glad you didn't say "Brick-outhouse" Shel!:-)
