That's the same question my grandmother asked me about Elvis Presley, my father asked me about the Beatles, and everyone else asked about Laurie Anderson. The simple answer is, if you like it, it's music.

There aren't many rap songs that I like, but the ones I do like sure feel like music -- like this one:

Nice list Chas.

In terms of the question, RAP is not my cup of tea, but I do see the talent that goes into it, particularly the improvisation ability of some RAP artists.

I think the movie "7 Mile" with Eminem highlighted that really well. I do admire the ability of the RAP artist to keep churning out rhymes.

I think it is a tendency (My father certainly has it) to conclude that because we don't like a particular style that it doesn't represent good music or talent. (My Dad has this opinion of the Beatles which infuriates me :) )

So I reckon it is music but not music that I particularly care for.

Rap certainly IS music, not unlike Mongolian Throat Music or African Belch Singing.

Rap is music, along with Country and Punk. You just wont find any in my music collection.

It is. I don't like all of it, but I do like some of it. I definitely don't like the objectification of women that a lot of rappers tend to do. But there is some good music if you're open to it.

Try to make it to the chorus of this song (around 1:05). Good messages for the young'uns. :)

Al,

I hadn't heard that before, but I like it a lot. I like a lot of what BEP do.

Glad I could introduce you to it. I think it was actually written by Justin Timberlake. (hate that talented guy!)
