Greetings TG'ers!
While on a vacation in Key West this past week with my wife, my three kids, and their spouses, I got to experience a musical thrill of a lifetime that I just have to share with all of you TG folks.
We were all at the Smokin’ Tuna, our favorite of the many restaurant/music venues around Key West. While I was checking out the gift shop, my wife took it upon herself to ask Scott Kirby, the performer on stage, if he would consider allowing a tourist from Ohio to sit in with him. Even though he mostly performs his own original songs, Scott graciously agreed, and next thing I knew I was nervously rushing back to our hotel to get the guitar I had rented from Island Guitar while we were there.
When Scott asked me what I’d like to play, the easiest thing that came to mind was “A Pirate Looks at Forty”, which, like many Jimmy Buffett songs, is a Key West staple. Scott said “ok, how about we do that and then a couple of blues songs”.
He ended up letting me stay up there with him for 5 songs altogether - Pirate, “Ain’t Hurtin’ Nobody” (John Prine), “Steamroller” (James Taylor), as well as two of his own compositions, “Whiskey” and “You Better Believe Her”.
Here’s video my wife was able to get. As you can see, Scott is a real pro, and made things extremely easy. He’s also a very talented performer and songwriter.
Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,
That was nice work. Good improvisation on his originals. I'm impressed! You're sure to be welcome to join him on stage in the future. Next time you go to the Smokin' Tuna, let us know. We'll watch you live on their tuna-cam:

I think this is the mobile link (it's the link used by my Android tablet, but my old ipod had problems with it):
