Just wondering what is the big deal with thirds?

Well for starters, chords are constructed by stacking thirds.

Stack two thirds (a major and a minor one), and you have a major chord. Stack one more on top of that, and you'll have a maj7, and another one on top of that gives you maj9, and another one a maj11 and one more and you got a maj13.

So yeah, they're a big deal. ;)

Hey Gang,

Big oops here on my part. I had just asked a student to test post something random on the Forum, planning to take it down myself, if I had editing access, which I am working on. So Walt,it is indeed an odd question. And Vanessa, thanks for the response.

Well I didn't think it was an odd question. If you don't know, you don't know.... :grimacing: But oh well...

I think it was the "big deal" part that threw me, not the subject.
