Tony- No offense taken. You're completely right, and it's hard for me not to cringe a little in that first verse when my voice cracks. I'll blame it on stage fright! You know, I've mentioned this song to you several times in the past, it being a Nick Cave song and all (and I know you like NC).
hey Suzi yeah I do like Nick Cave's voice, love the song "Into your Arms" but wasn't familiar with this one. (Clearly not a real fan) Glad you weren't offended, like I said just an observation as I notice how much stronger your voice got as you went. I understand the nerves aspect completely.

Wow that was great, I could be wrong but the concept of the song may have come from an early English Folk Song, the lyrics are very close and the chord progression is very similar. I have attached a clip of Fairport Convention doing an Folk Rock version of the song , once you get past the heavy intro and into it for proper listen and you will see what I mean. Really good Suzi, you need to try some Sandy Denny songs or maybe Richard and Linda Thompson stuff your playing style and voice would suit .

Pizza truck on its way I really enjoyed that and I'm glad you didn't miss the chair!

Matty Groves Lyrics.

A holiday, a holiday, and the first one of the year
Lord Donald's wife came into the church, the gospel for to hear
And when the meeting it was done, she cast her eyes about
And there she saw little Matty Groves, walking in the crowd
"Come home with me, little Matty Groves, come home with me tonight
Come home with me, little Matty Groves, and sleep with me till light"
"Oh, I can't come home, I won't come home
and sleep with you tonight
By the rings on your fingers I can tell you are my master's wife"
"But if I am Lord Donald's wife, Lord Donald's not at home
He is out in the far cornfields bringing the yearlings home"

And a servant who was standing by and hearing what was said
He swore Lord Donald he would know before the sun would set
And in his hurry to carry the news, he bent his breast and ran
And when he came to the broad millstream, he took off his shoes and he swam

Little Matty Groves, he lay down and took a little sleep
When he awoke, Lord Donald was standing at his feet
Saying "How do you like my feather bed and how do you like my sheets
How do you like my lady who lies in your arms asleep?"
"Oh, well I like your feather bed and well I like your sheets
But better I like your lady gay who lies in my arms asleep"
"Well, get up, get up," Lord Donald cried, "get up as quick as you can
It'll never be said in fair England that I slew a naked man"
"Oh, I can't get up, I won't get up, I can't get up for my life
For you have two long beaten swords and I not a pocket knife"
"Well it's true I have two beaten swords and they cost me deep in the purse
But you will have the better of them and I will have the worse
And you will strike the very first blow and strike it like a man
I will strike the very next blow and I'll kill you if I can"

So Matty struck the very first blow and he hurt Lord Donald sore
Lord Donald struck the very next blow and Matty struck no more
And then Lord Donald took his wife and he sat her on his knee
Saying "Who do you like the best of us, Matty Groves or me?"
And then up spoke his own dear wife, never heard to speak so free
"I'd rather a kiss from dead Matty's lips than you or your finery"

Lord Donald he jumped up and loudly he did bawl
He struck his wife right through the heart and pinned her against the wall
"A grave, a grave," Lord Donald cried, "to put these lovers in
But bury my lady at the top for she was of noble kin

Suiko, wish I knew how to make those claping hands & people doing flips, all I can do is say that was really really great playing and singing. Your learning and performing curve is going straight up, watch out for the ceiling although I think thats a long way off. Great song. Gives me some motivation to sing a few more songs that I can strum as well as trying to learn the more difficult (for me) finger picking. Gary

Wow Suzi! That is another level. Great job and so much fun to watch. I'm betting that no one here watched it just once. As Tony already (bravely :-)) pointed out, your singing really warmed up as you got into the song... and I have to say after listening to PJ and Nick, it is not easy to do, so really well done! Super performance!
And you have GAS too eh, judging by that new little Taylor in the background :-) Good for you! So much for the days of that other person we used to know as Suziko The Sensible way back when you signed up... eh!
The pizza delivery man will be ringing on your door any moment now with a week's supply. Bon appetit!

EDIT: And tell Emma I loved her art work on your wall behind you.... just viewed you full screen HD... we can see EVERYTHING! ;-)

When I watch a video that someone posts on TG, I ask myself two questions: 1) Is the person stretching his/her capabilities past a comfort level? and 2) Did the person demonstrate success in learning a new technique or style -- and not just a new song?

On these two criteria, Suzi's video is a huge success. I know that singing, for her, represented a monumental emotional hurdle to overcome. That she did it, and did it so well, while playing a demanding guitar part, answers both of the above questions. It would have been so easy to make something like "Blowing in the wind" your first vocal, but you didn't. You reached much further than that.

Not to embarrass you, Suzi, but it was fun watching you grow up as the song progressed. Your voice was tentative and hesitant at first, and you grew in confidence right before our eyes the more you sang. And nothing's more fun than watching someone do battle with a tough song and emerge victorious. Congratulations.

Suzi that was stunning
I'm bowled over
Jaw on the floor
PJ is so last year
Now it's your time girl.

With a performance like that
we wouldn't notice if you missed the chair
well maybe, but not for long.

A BIG BIG well done

OH MY GOSH !!! This was wonderful. You are so pretty !!! That was a great performance, and I bet from now on when you do that song, it will just get better and better. After all, you are now "published" and that should just rock your confidence. I feel bad cuz I played my awful songs in sweat pants and a hoodie while sitting cross legged on the floor. Watch out guys !!! I am dressing up for the next one. Also your video was really high quality. What did you tape yourself with?
Thanks so much for sharing..... :)

Suzi,

Excellent Job!!! What else can I say? I see it really adds to the song when it is sung and I thought you did a fabulous job with both the guitar and with your singing.

Wow Suzi, Great Job! I really enjoyed listening to your song. I admire the fact that you challenged yourself to get out of the comfort zone and sing, not easy to do. Keep up the good work and keep on inspiring me with your posts.
Thanks,
Craig

Hi Suzi, beside your lovely playing and signing, what I am really impressed is how much your confidence level have increased over the few months. Putting youself on the spot to sing for the first in front of everybody is great. I tried to sing once and my dog bit me.

Félicitations

Marc
