I put this video up yesterday on the "Busking John Lennon" thread, but also hope that Neil might review my effort.

It's John Lennon's birthday in a few days and I just couldn't wait until then to upload my take of Neil's lesson on Lennon's "Watching the Wheels".

I guess the "word for the day" here is: syncopation ... quite a fine lesson for experimenting with that.

Pierre! Loved it!

I remember wanting to play and sing this with you at our last jam-- Unfortunately I ended up 'watching the wheels' fall off of my version!

Glad to see you've got a great handle on it.. you can lead next time ;)

Hey Pierre,

You look really relaxed in this and your voice is perfect as is your phrasing. The syncopation looks tricky to capture properly. I imagine it must be difficult to sing against, but it doesn't look like you're having problems. I might give the lesson a look too. Thanks for the inspiration.

Nice one.

Shel

Well done! I've always liked that tune. I think you are well on your way to having it nailed. Great job singing as well. Very enjoyable.

willem ... you are quite right that this is a great lesson, that needs quite a bit of practice to go anywhere.
Thanks for voting for a review ! :)

Al, I took up this tune 2 days before our TG group met last December. I actually thought I could get a grasp on it in time.
So it turns out we were both in a delusional state about this song ...
I remember that this kind of situation motivated you to master tunes in a more systematic way ... me too!
Them's the breaks, right? Thanks, Al.

Buddy, yes, it really is a great Lennon tune.
I'm inching towards getting a mike for vocals ... gotta evolve, I guess.
Thanks for the head's up.

Bob, I'm really glad you got some fun out of it ... thanks!

Shel, I have made some progress, as you say: "phrasing" this tune, but am still not completely satisfied with the whole flow of it.
Yes, tricky, tricky ... but fun ! And the vocals can vary so much: sometimes almost conversational, at other times soaring(?) high notes, and even some screechy high notes are needed (isn't that a relief, when that's allowed !).
It ain't over yet, thanks :)

Jay, you go straight to the point ... I really appreciate your kind remarks.

Craig, it's very nice to hear from you, glad you liked it, thanks a lot !

That was really sweet, Pierre. Nice job on some tricky chords ... and your voice seems perfectly suited to this song. Watching you perform makes me remember how much I enjoyed hearing you play and sing at guitar camp.
