Hey TG-friends!

I actually don’t know much about Jason Mraz, but a week ago someone asked me how to play this song, well luckily for me we have a lesson on it here at TG, so case closed right?! But no this guy wanted to play it exactly as Jason does in this particular concert, a version that he doesn’t play on any other performance that I could find (I listened to quite a few!), so I had to figure it out by myself  , good eartraining for me B) ! But since I immediately fell in love with the song, it wasn’t really a sacrifice to get into it.

Also by watching this performance I suddenly realized that he is actually súch a talented musician, he plays well of course, but he also sings very well, gosh such perfect pitch  ! Not to mention that he writes his own songs too.

I can’t say that the song is really hard to play, but it’s filled with many subtleties and lots of nuances, dynamics, easy to miss something. Also vocally, or I should say lyrically…..gosh, that was a challenge :S …..! If you don’t know the song, you’ll see what I mean, haha  !

In any way, I think I covered most of what Jason is doing in this particular concert, if I’m missing something, feel free to let me know! :) (btw I raised it a half step)

Hope you enjoy!

Cheers

Ness

OMG!!! WOW!

I thought Jason's version was gorgeous. ... But it just pales in comparison.

I'm a bit speechless. ...

That was SO beautiful. Your singing was heartbreaking though the whole range of the song, from so low (very cool) to soaringly high. You managed the droning mouthfuls without a sweat. The whole song went straight to my heart. Your playing...no wonder I call you a muso superhero. Gosh!!! I love the sliding and the accented slides on 'and when I'm needing'. I love the fingerpicking sections where you change the feeling, and the muting and the high energy strumming. And the way you switch. The way you've captured the subtleties is ... Well it's exactly what I've come to expect from you, your ear for the little things that make all the difference. I love the ending too.

I love this song. And now I LOVE this song, even more.

You're amazing. You never fail to impress me with the way you're able to communicate your passion through your music. You've brought a tear or two to my eyes this morning.

Thank you!!

Shel

Wow, Ness, that was truly impressive!!! Not just the playing, which looked mighty tricky, but also the vocals, which seemed mind-blowingly difficult! Yet you handled it with absolute ease and confidence. What a great performance!! I had never heard that song before, but I sure loved your version.

Well done, you!!!

Beautiful Ness,

For me (and so many others) you have everything that makes a great artist. Of course you play so well, you sing so well, but it's more than that. I BELIEVE everything you sing. You are so open, so likable. Your beauty as a person shines through your music. You know how to move people. You can take me through a whole range of emotions as you just did with this tune. I have learned so much about how to perform from watching you. I can't DO it, but I am absorbing what it takes. Of course the critical step is to be able to play the tune as easily as you do, freeing yourself up to perform to your best. Neil has told me that in reviews, and I see it whenever I watch you perform. Thanks for everything you do. You are truly a wonderful player and person.

Hey Ness,
What can I say that hasn't been said in this thread. You made me love a song that I never heard before as I lost touch with new music sometime in the late 90's. In my book that makes you the real deal. Your voice has a very rich and pleasing resonance to it. The playing seemed effortless, natural and was perfect for the song and the vocals. I want to go and watch your other videos.
