I thought I'd manage to work out the solo from the lesson.
What I don't understand now is how to incorporate the melody notes into the strum.
It could be that I'm trying to play something that's beyond me too, but I'm not sure how to
sort this out in my head.
Neil shows the melody notes (that's easy) and then takes off strumming them  .
Okay, he does do a slow version but it's still hard to keep up with.
Any more help out there?

Vanessa, sorry here comes the question.... eh, eh.......
I'm not quite sure what the solo progression is C/C / Dm / C/C / V1 V3
The C/C parts are melody notes.... so what's the chord progression I'd strum and
do I strum as per the chorus or the vamp.
It looks easy to watch, but with guitar in hand *%$£?
Hey, I'm confused !
:S

You've studied this lesson Dermot, you know the details...take a look again.....I wouldn't have a clue what it all means, V1, V3 etc.

I've given this part of the lesson several doses of looking at but stuck.
Your idea to strum the progression was good.
Just not sure what to strum.

Dean has said it before, there is no such thing as a set strumming all the way through. You have four beats in the measure, you can strum 4th notes, 8th, 16th, whatever.
As you could've seen in that little clip of me (in Dean's thread of another Nick Drake song) that I actually hit all downs and ups (or at least most of them), using 16th's strumming. (starts at 1.53)
And you can strum the verses bit right? Just keep the same strumming, it's all good, as long as it's in time and as long as you don't skip or miss or add a beat in the measure. When you got the progression down, then you can get into the details of any song in general.
Basics Dermot, basics.....get those down first, really.

Hello Vanessa
I've been working away at it following Deans video.
Yes your right, I can play the vamp verse and chorus now, still need a good bit of work.
Your video for Dean's good too, I forgot about it, although had watched it several time s.
I need to stop worrying about mistakes, but that's another issue !
I'm not thinking clearly recently, I'll pull back on the forum posts for a while
I must get a tad boring going on and on :S .
I'll do my best to upload Pink Moon when I make more progress with it.
Hey, you've both been great with the videos, thanks.

Naaah, you're never boring with your posts Dermot, you definitely keep things alive over here!
It's just that it feels very unsatifying to answer you on things sometimes, because it's never enough. You generally have a next question and another question and another, if I was your private teacher it'd be different.....and I guess you're not aware of it, but you often ask for the same things too, I find myself on repeat here and there.....I mean it does take time and energy to get into stuff, which is all good, but then I hear the same question in another song....yeah, that's a bit frustrating... :S ...you know what I mean?
I do think you get your head into the details way too fast.....because of your 'I want it to sound as Neil plays it'.....so what I mean, focus on basics instead of details..
So no, you're NEVER boring Dermot, but you do have a thick skull, haha!
