This sounds like an interesting and fun idea on a number of levels. As soon as I read it I began trying to think of ideas and/or suggestions to help the effort given its ambitious nature. My first thought was some electronic means as has been mentioned, such as scanning, digital signatures or even faxing, which is do-able and would certainly make it easier but I sort of dismissed that because I think that would take away from the personal feel. It seems the banner should span the world and actually be in the hands of all the participants at one point. Sort of a musical version of the Olympic torch. I also think pictures posted here of each person (or group) signing it, as Chris suggested, would really make for a great thread that would preserve the effort on the forum in pictures. That would rules out any type of digital signature.

I’ve been checking various worldwide shipping companies (UPS, FedEx, DHL etc.) to see if there’s a way to ‘daisychain’ a package to go from one place to another as would be needed for this. Perhaps if that can be done by one company it might make the task a little easier for everyone. I see DHL and Purolator courier have a Chain of Signature service that tracks shipments through each step of a transportation route but that is more for legal and security control although the idea is on the right track. I’ll talk to my UPS guy when he gets to my office and see if he has any suggestions.

Oh did I mention I was interested? … I am, I think it’s a great idea for the TG “family” :-)

Tammy, did you check to see that the banner can be written on and with what sort of pen? Those plastic surfaces can be tricky. :-)

Marc, I'm sure the dogsled team could actually find my igloo, so heck yeah I'll sign the thing.

I think it's a great idea. I think having the banner actually travel the globe would be awesome. Sure we can find a way to email our signatures and put them on the banner but that is nowhere near as awesome as knowing that banner has actually visited each member.

So I am for Marc's original idea 100%. I understand there is a cost of postage but I wouldn't think it would be too much?

What a fun idea! I'm definitely game.

If people are willing or interested, one nice thing could be to add something personal to the package for the receiver. Maybe a little note, or a postcard from your town, or some very small gift- maybe something your town makes. Nothing that is of real monetary value and not something that would increase the cost of shipping. I think that could make the package even more fun to receive and send.

Great idea, Suzi. I think adding a small gift to the NEXT TG Member on the "Banner Tour" would be a lot of fun.

I am at the airport and taking a quick look at this banner idea (it is Tammy 's idea, I am just the messenger). I understand some concerns about ther trouble of taking care of the shipping but as others have mentioned, if the signatures are to mean something, they would need to be done personally. Having to ship it and the trouble that accompany that is what makes it meaningful.

I hope that everybody will join, but as mentioned in the original post, just send me a TG mail to be out of it if you are not comfortable with the idea , no arms done. This travelling basnner would be , I am sure something unique on the web.

Ken thanks for looking into this. If there is no one courier solution, each country might have it' s own best way

Chris, In Binghamton, we all signed it with regular pen and it held very well. So regular ink should be used by everybody.

Thanks for supporting the idea.

Keep in mind that the name in the list is not complete, just PM me to have your name added

That's an easy one, Willem. Just write BEER in large letters on the outside of the box. It should sail right through. (Advice from a friend of mine in Perth) :P
