What happened to Chris?
Scott was just referring to that story I recounted for you Tom (must be the pain meds kicking in! ;-) ). I was a goalkeeper for 10 years and never injured myself so that was some freaky save! How painful to be only able to look at your shiny new Taylor for the next few weeks... is God speaking to you  I hear Andy has good connections, maybe he can fix it for you now Jim's gone.

Sorry Chris, Believe it or not I am not on painkillers, but I've only had three hours sleep since it happened, so that may explain my dozyness.

It was freaky because I have quite long arms and the arm was stretched out straight and I think as the ball hit my hand at great speed and power may I add, that my elbow probably stayed put, but my hand to elbow may have flexed quite far back in reality snapping the tendon at the elbow crease. I looked up the operation procedure. It involves two incisions one on the rear of my arm small size and another on the front about 4 to 5 inches long and they need to drill three holes in the bone and re-attach the ligament with stitches, it takes one and a half hours to do the op'.

Andy is going to put some good words in for me, he has the bosses ear, :) so I am grateful for that.

I just need to be patient. It has helped talking to you guys in the TG community.

As for my new Taylor, I am playing it just now, as I obviously won't be able to for a while after Friday worst luck. (Now that really does hurt). I have had several offers of caretaker rolls by a couple of the members :) but have declined so far lol!

Cheers,

Tom.

Tom, I hope they get you operated on asap so that recovery can commence. Can you carve Turkey with one hand too? :-)
Your soccer story triggered my memories of soccer (which was everything to me as a teenager) and I found some old stuff in the attic, old results, cleen-sheets, triumphs and defeats, een an olde photo. I remember training at college when there were 20 of those horrible orange plastic Mitre balls flying all over the place at once and the damned things really hurt when they hit you. And once, out in the park as a school boy, we'd spend all day playing only going home for meals and returning asap, I had to face a penalty which my friend then hammered straight at my face. I didn't even have time to lift my hands up the ball came so fast. It broke my glasses(!!) in two, exploding them off my face, the ball went over the bar (great save!) and I was knocked backward into the goal. No injury but a huge laugh all round! Them wer't' days lad. Image

Hi Chris,
you know how to make someone laugh

I remember those orange balls they were heavy, but I can tell you of a worse ball, it was a Mold Master, boy was it heavy. My P.E. teacher was a former professional footballer and he had us out playing football in all weathers. This guy was hard! I mean scarey hard! The first time I encountered the Mold Master known as a Moldy by everyone, was a very cold, rainy and windy Autumn day. We all hated playing with those Moldy's because you kicked them hard and they didn't go very far! In fact if you can imagine playing football with a basketball that was twice as thick you might have an idea. Anyway I remember the ball went up in the air and I thought no way am I heading this brick, the ball was wet and even heavier than normal, but my scary teacher told me to get up and header it.........so I did........I think I was concussed for about two days after! or at least it felt that way lol   The good old days :)

As for the Turkey Chris, I have a perfectly good left arm that won't let me starve. lol. :)

Last week I took a ball directly in the face, not having much luck am I? Luckily I have a high pain threshold as it was sore for about three minutes and then I was ok. I expect to get hurt sometimes, the guys I play with are in their late twenties, some are junior or ex junior league players, most are just decent or good players, but mostly they are clean players and don't try to hurt each other or me, the games are played at pace, so accidents happen.

I am going in tomorrow for an MRI scan and told to be fasted, which obviously means I could be operated on tomorrow, really hope so. Fingers crossed. It's just dawning on me the impact this will have on my guitar playing and it's not good, but just have to accept it and get back playing asap. If there is any way I can get back playing guitar (not football) quickly I will find it, believe me.

Oh gosh Tom!

Sorry to get here late, but my thoughts are with you.

Not being able to play the guitar or sports.....pffffff.....that would freak me out big time... Hopefully it'll all recover soon.

take care!

Ness

@Chris Wów that is quite a story and quite an experience...must have been very intense.

Good luck tomorrow, lets hope they get you into the OP right away before the end of your biceps grows onto the wrong place all by itself and every time you want so play barred F you end up scratching your nose or some other protrusion!

Yeah, those old balls! Remember the olde leather balls that were more square than round and had laces which could cut your head open? Damned things must have been 3 times the weight of a normal ball when wet. There was always one really good ball in the P.E. store room and 3 crappy ones, eh? AT break times we'd ask to borrow the best ball but usually drew a blank. We'd even go around to the PE teacher's house at weekends and ask to borrow "The Ball" as he took it home with him, it was so hallowed. It was a Select, a beauty, round and lovely to boot. We actually succeeded in getting it lent out as we improved and proved ourselves worthy. :-). When balls became rounder and truer it became more and more fun to play and, strangely, you became more skilful :-). Once I could afford to buy my very own ball, I bought a real beaut and it went everywhere with me. Never had a more valuable possession until I bought my 12 string. Not even any car I had was of THAT value to me! I actually feel the balls to day are too smooth and round, they fly through the air like beach-balls and make goalies look bad... don't like that!

Vanessa,
that's just one of the many great stories of youth that pop into mind when triggered! It was no problem at all. Glasses bound together with something, the game went on! I did get contact lenses shortly after though.

Thanks Ness,
hopefully the op' will be tomorrow and I can start to get better from there. Don't think it will be quick to mend completely, just have to take it as it comes.

Thanks Chris, It's ok, it's my picking arm. Hopefully when I get back to playing, my fingers know what to do.

My mate saved up and bought one of those laced balls, we called them cudgers, not sure where the name came from but the balls were rubbish, they weren't even round and as you say get it wet and it was twice as heavy. They had a bladder inside of them as I recall. Some of todays balls are two slippy especially when it's raining. You actually seem to get what you pay for these days.
