I have 19 guitars but not one acoustic. I know, I know, I'm going to get one real soon I just haven't figured out what I want yet. Right now for my acoustic type playing I have been using one of my hollow body electric guitars. It's my hope to get an acoustic by the weekend. I should trade in some of my electrics to get one but I have a hard time parting with any of them.

Mike
Mike B., what type of body style are you favoring, medium size (Orchestra) and do you want the cutaway for reach of the upper frets & how about electronics, or are you just looking strickly acoustic no electronics?? Gary

Mike, what woods is that Taylor 816ce made of and what type of finish does the top have, Natural or sunburst? and do you have any Taylor inlay in the fretboard?? Must be a nice Ax an probably set you back a few sheckels. Thanks, Gary

Reg, that 30 year old martin dreadnaught must have an awesome sound after the wood aging for so long, although I guess you have to play it also to get the wood to really open up, what woods is that Martin made of?? Gary
Gary, my Taylor 816ce has the sitka top with rosewood sides and back. It is natural finish. It does have the Taylor inlay in the fretboard. I think its the standard inlay that comes with all 800 series. Not sure though. Has an excellent sound, heck the wife even likes the sound...that's all that matters...

does anyone know what guitar Neil is playing on all his videos?? It sounds wonderful!
It's probably not the guitar, it's the player.

The one with the inlays is a Santa Cruz and the one without is an Ed Claxton the latter was custom made not sure about the SC though. Both very high end guitars though. And yes the player does make a significant difference

I play on an inexpensive Yamaha F325. My wife got it for me last year for my birthday (she was my fiance at the time; just got married this last Saturday). Before last year I played on an old beat up POS with no name that I was told was unplayable (yes it was super hard to play).

I would like to get a martin DX1 for my house and a seagull for taking places, but this guitar suits me just fine until then.

I think I would prefer a smaller body with the cutout. I tried a Dreadnought and it felt so huge to me. I tried some other smaller ones that I liked better just can't remember the sizes, 00, or something like that.

Mike, Thats what decision I came to also. The 000 size is called the Orchestra size, I also like the cutaway to reach the higher frets. They are pretty common now, with Martin 16 series and the Taylor 12 or 14 series w/ Taylor starting 312 or 314 up to the 912 or 914, it just a matter of money. I got lucky and was able to buy several Guild all wood US built in 2007 "Contemporary Series" guitars that have the mid size body and either the florentine (pointed) cutaway or the venitian (normal rounded) cutaway. They are awesome guitars if you can find them. I'd like to buy a Taylor and keep my favorite Guild but that would require parting with my Guild w/Indian Rosewood Side and Back & Spruce Top w. Masagascar Rosewood Bridge and Fretboard, bone saddle and nut, & maybe my Tacoma to afford the Taylor I want. Gary

Hello everyone,

I currently have a Martin DC-16RGTE single cutaway, Gloss spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides, I love the warm tone. I does have electronics, Fishman Preflix blender.
I did have a Martin DM, but I recently sold it, another great guitar, but I just did not play it. It did have a totally different sound, much brighter then my DC-A6RGTE, Mahogany vs. Rosewood. I love my Martin.B)

I guess I should also add, besides my Martin DC-16RGTE, I also own a Fender American Deluxe Strat, very nice guitar, I play it through a Fender Blues Jr.B) Tube Amp veryb nice sound. I also own a Epiphone Les Paul Classic Quilt Top, very pretty, nice humbucker sound.

I am very pleased with all my guitars, but, My Martin is my baby.:)

Stratman, that sounds like an awesome guitar. I'm familiar with the 16 series, that is what I was looking for, when I told my martin expert I wanted a mid size body with a cutaway. He told me most all of the cutaway series come w/electronics which is fine by me. What is the DC? also what does the ARTE represent. How long have you had your Martin. This is my delema, martin or taylor. Is there anything that sold you on the Martin over the Taylor, assuming you even considered Taylor. Gary
