My old guitar teacher used to drill a hole in the centre of the pick about 1/4inch diameter.

Well I had the same problem, pick sliding all over the place. Now don't laugh to hard but what I did was on the fat end of the pick I used some self adhesive sand paper. It works for me and allows me use a lighter grip on the pick for a better sound.

I guess we are sometimes easily spoiled, but since I started using Jim Dunlop's picks I find it very hard to use anything else. If you have not used them before, the raised lettering and texture at the grip end of the pick makes it stay in place no matter what you are playing.
