Tuning Down

Forum folks, A question please:
In the "Spot the Slip' forum it was mentioned " All 6 strings were tuned down 1 whole step D G C F A D. Neil Young does this commonly for a couple of reasons- sing in a lower key, as well as a richer, deeper sound on the acoustic guitar."
I was hoping some one could tell me how do tune down 1 whole step. I have an el-cheapo Korg tuner, and it tell me if each individual string is correctly tuned to 440, but it does not tell me if the E is sounding a D, or the A sounding a G. How does a person tune down one whole step?
Thanks again
