Hello

Just wondered what make of strings and what guage everyone uses? I used to stick to the well known names, but I was in a shop and the guy who owned it recommended I try Lucky Star strings, they are phosphor bronze, 13 guage and sound absolutely brilliant.

They last a long time and the sound quality stays the same for almost all of their lives. I like the strings so much I went on ebay and bought six packs of strings for about £25. I'm 2 packs in and all is good so far, they can take a lot of use.

So, what type of strings do you use, and what do you think of them?

Joe

I use Martin strings on my martin (mostly because that is what came with it when I got it last year and they gave me an extra set as well). Might try something different when these wear out. They sound fine to my untrained ear though. On my Tom Anderson Electric, I use Elixer strings. I have tried several brands, and just like these the best so far. I am sure there are many good ones out there.

D'Addario EXP Phosphor Bronze Medium Gauge

Before that it was the regular D'Addario Phosphor Bronze Medium Gauge

I have tried those Elixirs on my friend's guitar - and I thought they were CRAP.

I've also tried Ernie Ball Super Slinky Lights - but too much fret buzz - and it was on a guitar that I couldn't adjust the truss rod anymore.

The guitar I bought, a Seagull, came with Godin 12 gauge. They sound very nice and have held up well. It is time for new ones though and I was thinking about D'Addario Phosphor Bronze light gauge (11 on the high e). I have used D'Addario a lot in the past and like them a lot. The other string I would consider using, because of good experience, is Martin.

I use Martin 12s on my acoustics, can't actually recall whats on the electric, the resonator has 15's on it can't recall the brand either, but whatever they were I can't find them again and the shop I bought them from can't remember either :( , they last a looong time cos its mostly used for slide work and the odd fingerpicking blues song.

D'Addario .012-.053 80/20 Bronze EXP11 and EJ11; Phosphor Bronze EXP16 and EJ16. I like all of them. I really can't tell the difference in the coated EXP's, and I get the same life coated or non-coated.

I'm using phosphor-bronze 11's on the Applause (don't recall the brand, but not one of the leading brands). I have a set of Elixirs waiting to be mounted.

I posted in another thread that I love the DR Extra Life strings and if I can't get them, I'll go for a set of Elixir Nanowebs.
